84 c10 08 denali motor and tranny swap
okay i came across the couple for a $1000 so my questions are can i convert the motor to carb. would i need any special stand alone comp for the tranny pretty much how would i go about putting that in my truck will it drop strait in i have no idea i have the stock 305/th350 as of now. but i also have a 87 454 that i was going to have rebuilt with a th400 in my garage dont know which way to go. info would be greatly appreciated

That sounds like a great price. I think that would be a L76 or L92. Yes you can convet it to carb, but you need a controller to fire the coil packs. Yes you need a computer to control the trans, or you could bolt it up to your TH350/400. Street and Performance makes engine mounts for the conversion as well as headers, wiring harness ect. By the time you get the parts for the conversion you will probably spend the same amount of money as rebuilding the 454 and have a lighter engine with a lot of potential to upgrade. The L76, L92 and LS3 heads are similar to the LS7 and flow very well. If you don't want to use the trans that is with the engine you could sell it and use the money to pay for parts for the conversion. Check out the L76/L92 and conversion sections of LS1tech.com.

Well if it's a 6.2L and 6 speed, there is little point in running a carb with this motor and transmission. You lose the variable cam timing function, and you lose the ability to control the 6 speed transmission. You NEED a computer to run this transmission, and if you want to run the motor with a carb, you need an expensive aftermarket computer for it. You would also need and ignition control to run the coil packs.
So: Carb intake Ignition computer Transmission computer Which probably adds up to MORE money than using the stock fuel injection components and computer from the newer truck. Not only that, you are losing the advantages of the variable cam timing so it's probably not going to run as well as it did with the stock fuel injection setup. If you want something that bolts in and runs with a carburetor and no computers, stick with the 454 and Turbo 400. If you want a carburetor with a newer LS V8, you really want to get an older mechanically controlled transmission, such as a Turbo 350, Turbo 400, 700R4 or 2004R in order for it to be cost effective. Most anyone who gets a complete drivetrain out of a newer truck with an electronically controlled transmission, is going to keep the stock computer and fuel injection because it works well and is cheaper in the long run when utilizing the entire drivetrain.

that pretty much covers it. except shop around most parts you get on S&P can be found elsewhere for cheaper.

If you swap it to a carb I don`t think you can make it smog legal in your 84.
