4-speed bellhousing starter cutout
Anybody have any idea why someone would cut out an area around the starter on a manual transmission bellhousing?

Re: 4-speed bellhousing starter cutout
Probably to mount a block mounted (automatic) style starter. A lot of manual flywheels have 168 tooth ring gears which is that same as most auto flexplates. I had to do this when I mated the diesel to factory 4 speed bellhousing in '67 C-30. All of the starters for my style diesel engine are block mounted, so I needed the clearance.
