Widest FRONT wheel??

I've seen several posts with requests for measurements and specs of the widest wheel that we can bolt to the back of these trucks....How about the front?? I'm sure a factory height truck is going to have more room, but I'm talking about trucks with at least 3"-4" of drop.

Here's a couple pics of when we bolted both of my 9.5" back wheels on to one side of Brian's 71. Of course we didn't try to drive it like this...but I like the look of a wide front wheel.

These wheels have 4 3/4" backspacing....I'm guessing about 5.5" of backspacing would work??? Of course that might cause some inner fender/control arm issues. A larger diameter wheel could possibly clear the control arms (if there even was an issue here). It could be worth the inner fender mods in order to pull off the look? Of course, then we might have to widen the rear tubs and try to get some 11" or 12" wide rims back there....

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??

In my opinion that looks perfect on the front with that backspacing. I like it when the tire sticks out even to the top lip of the wheel opening. If only the back was 1-2 inches wider. Of course this would not work with really low trucks though.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??

I'd love to have 15x9F and 15x11R. It would look pretty sweet with about 4" backspace, that way the wheels stick out, but not too much.

Out of curiosity, Asa, what backspacing and tire sizes are your's. I'm going to be ordering rims soon, and I know I want 17's, so I see no reason to reinvent the wheel (pun intended). I love the way all ya'll "Worthless" guys trucks look, and I'd like to go with a similiar combo. Thanks!

Here ya go... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=143835&page=6

Brian and Chuckles trucks have the same size tires and wheels but they're both running 5" of Backspacing on the rear wheels.

Re: Widest FRONT wheel??

Thanks for the thread and the pics Asa, I've been trying to decide on what I want also, and wondered how a 17x9.5 with a 4&1/2" BS would look out back. Also, I have some 17x8s with a 5" BS, and wondered if they are going to clear on the front. I don't have the camera skill that you do, but here are some of a 17x9.5 with a 5 & 1/2" backspace, 275/50 tire. and a 4" drop. The backspace is maxed, with only about 1/2" of clearance.
