69 chevy lwb to short stepper project

Well here goes my build thread. A friend of mine got me started on this and I thought i would give it a try. Being a Ford guy all my life this is a little hard to swallow but I guess with a litle hard work and concentration, and maybe a few adult beverages I can wash it down and get it done.

Here is the donor cab. Good and solid with surface rust and one reallybad cab corner from a wreck.

As you can see the firewall on the donor cab is in good shape

Even the floor is in really good shape

Re: 69 chevy lwb

Well it has been a long time but i have made some progress. Got the frame cleaned and painted. Got all the trim holes filled and bondoed smooth and sanded down and repaired the cab corner that was wrecked.

Now i am stuck on which holes to fill on the firewall to install the vintage air kit. There are a lot of holes in firewall that i have no idea what they are for.

Looks like a great start! I like that donor cab. It looks like you won't have to cut any rust out. Keep up the good work!

Lightbulb Re: 69 chevy lwb

So i have been thinking and this crazy thought jumped in there. I am fixing to turn 39 and i am in the middle of this big restoration and why do i want to drive around in this granpa looking truck.

I read more build threads and i find these cool shortbed stepside builds. Now i really want one. So i call the local salvage yard and they happen to have a really nice short step bed buried under this huge flat bed. I am thinking this thing is going to be trashed. We un-bury it and it is actually in good shape. They tell me i can have it if i give them the bed i have been working on already. More thoughts cross my mind and i give in and bring it home.

It also has this spare mount fender on it and i find another regular fender on the flatbed that i can also have if i bring the spare holder fender back.

I has this hidious tailgate cover riveted on over the original. Tere are no dents on the inside of the gate so i start drilling rivets.

and this is what i find underneath

I need input on the use of hub adapters. Guys at work say no just use the right lug nuts, but Discount tire guys say yes or the wheels will walk. Any input?
