73 door swap question

I have a 73 c20, I read on a different site that only doors from 73-76 are interchangable. I have an 85 suburban sitting in the drive way, what is the difference in the doors other than the door panel area?

So they can be used? On the other site it says that it wont work. But since it will then I don't have to buy any new doors! Sweet!

Re: 73 door swap question

Would you happen to know what years are interchangable for most parts? I need 2 doors, front fenders, a hood, and tailgate. I saw a post for an 86 bed (wide?) and was interested in it. Maybe a site that can help better then the ones I have found?

Yes the doors will fit for sure,fenders and hood will have to be from a 73-80 model truck.The 86 bed will fit also .Now with a little work (providing the suburban parts are good) you can put the whole front end on,it will pretty much bolt on the trickiest part is mounting the hood hinges in the cab

Re: 73 door swap question

I asked BB73 (Jeff) about this a while back when looking for a cab shell for my 74 (he knows his stuff) and this is the reply I got;

Maybe you should go back to that other site and set them straight on parts interchanging. LOL

Re: 73 door swap question

73-76 door guts are different than 77-87 (88-91). The 73-76 window crank stalks are shorter, roller channels welded to the inside of the door are different as are the window regulator rollers themselves. Of course the door panels are different too.

You can swap complete 85 doors to your 73 no problem, it is when you start interchanging parts that you will run into trouble.

Ok I'm confused now. Will it work with using everything? Like taking the whole door off, window and all and just bolting it on the 73

Yes, change it all. I put some electric '86 doors on my '73 before I had it repainted.
