Well after about 2 mos of the 77 C-10 engine starter mount breaking off, the truck is about to come back to life. Fed Ex just dropped off an Edelbrock carb 1806, Edelbrock Intake 7516 and a new seal kit. I got a GM Targetmaster 350 crate motor from a buddy with about 25k miles on it and a 7102 Edelbrock Cam with springs and another buddy hooked me up with a set of Vortec heads. So with any luck this week should be some fun and the truck back on the road.

Also picked up a 78 4wd. Gave my buddy the axles and suspension and I will eventually put the stepside on my truck. The black 85 in the pic is now off the frame and my roommate is starting to put that together.

This is the truck the engine will go into. 77 Cheyenne. I have never done any major engine work so this will be fun, as long as I don't mess it up LOL. The stepside bed from the white 78 will go on this one. I have the parts to put the 88-91 grille on it but I am having a hard time trying to decide if I really want to change the front end. Thinking about keeping the 70's grille and going with a cowl hood. But that is a little ways off yet.

The black 85 in the picture above is already off the frame and getting the axles and suspension from the white 78.

keep the 70s style!! that thing would look great stepside with that front end. IMO the 91 plastic frontends look really kinda cheasy

yeah defiantly keep the 70's front. you just don't see them as much now a days.

I like the 70's front ends too, but I may be a bit biased...lol

I keep leaning back to the 70's front end. I like the way the 88-91 front end looks but it seems like it is just there, not really part of the front end of the truck. I would just have to find somewhere to refinish the chrome head light bezels. I have two sets but they are rough.

I think the '73-'79 fronts look the best on a 2wd stepper. The shape of the front fenders kinda match the rear fenders. Besides, you already have the front fenders shaved and it looks nice.

Keep the 70's front end, but loose the tube grille. Keep us updated on the engine build up. I built my first engine last year and man was it fun. Do some research and you'll find a lot of info on the vortec heads and some block tips. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I have really been thinking about the chrome grille setup from LMC for the 70's model. I have all the parts to convert the front end just having a hard time convincing myself to do it. Should start the engine this weekend once I get home. Can't wait.
