I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

Me and the wife took a trip to the strip Saturday hoping to get ready for Pinks at the end of the month and run the beast in 1/4. So far all my passes were 1/8 mile so I had no idea what to expect but we made our best pass in the 1/8 and we ran 9.82 in the 1/4 .
I caught myself shutting down at the 1/8 so might of been a little better if I can ever get past that.
Dang thing left so hard I broke the shifter knob right off ( by the way because of this I found the shifter knob is not a good place to put the trans brake button).
Anyway I was very excited to say the least and figured I would share.

6.00 1/8
9.82 1/4

Sweet! I think you are still letting off. Have you posted pics of the truck? You need to post it on www.dragtruk.com What were the mph's and 60 ft? You need to update your sig.

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

60 Ft was 1.15
1/8 was 6.01 not exactly 6 flat but close enough for me
1/8 mph 109.46
1/4 was 9.82
1/4 mph cant be right reads 108.30 unless you can lose that much by getting off of it to early. Sure seemed like I was flying,
Made 2 other runs one against a camaro in which he left early and I left late but I still caught him and went 10.23 with a 1.4 60ft 103 mph in the 1/4 and I know I got off of it way early on this one and I was in the bad lane .
The third pass the shifter handle departed the shifter and caused me to fall on my face right off the line, so no good info on that one.

Most of this info probably sounds weird but I only have 15 or so passes on me so I am way green yet and the track doesn't have much in the way of shut down room which can be intimidating.

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

Kwhite,

How big of a verter you running?
What 1st gear is in the glide?
What's the truck weigh?

Cutting a 1.15 60' is pretty darn amazing for an old pick up..

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

It is a Neil chance converter and they set it up as a 5800 stall, I left on the brake with a 4000 rpm chip.
1.80 straight cut gears in glide. The builder said he was a little afraid of the weight of the truck but so far so good.
Truck weight was 3300 with iron 454 , me in it and no cage, I havent weighed it since adding the aluminum head 565 and putting in cage. I also cut everything of no use out ( 2 cross members fenders ect) and truck has ladder bar set up ( had leaf springs GMC).
Motor made 1011 hp at 7400 rpm according to Schmidt racing engines.

Keith

By the way it was a 9.84 not 9.82 oops I will try to scan the slip tonight for all .

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

I have to agree with Kevin,, the times are a little unusual. My Nova will pull 1.28 sixty's, go 5.9's @ 115 in the 1/8th, and cross at 9.2's @ 144ish.

Now that's a 2900 pound Nova with a lot less HP than you,, but I just went through some timeslips and even 8.90 door cars crossing at 150mph are only pulling 1.2x sixtys.
Please don't misinturpret what I'm saying,, not trying to discredit, disagree or confront anything,, your kicking @$$ for sure. But I think maybe the timers at your track may have some 'issues'. In the end,, the numbers don't matter, keep doing what your doing,, cause you got that thing FLYING!!!

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

Yea...somethings not quite right. Nothing on the time slip adds up. For a 9.8 1/4 the 660 should be 6.20 or so. For a sub 1.20 sixty the 660 should be 5.30 and 130 mph. I'm sure it hauled azz, just somethings up with the timing equipment.

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

That truck is haullin'...

I agree that the numbers don't add up right, but remember that he said he lifted just after the 1/8th. That could be why the the 1/4 does not work with the quick 1/8th mile time.

What track are you running at?

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

Marv,

My buddies chassis car runs consistant 9.0x's with low 1.1x's. But I think the car weighs somewhere around 2,700lbs and makes around 750hp. That is going off memory though.

It does seem based on the 60' to 1/8 then 1/4 that it's nosing over and or your on the brakes pretty hard.. Seat time will probably gain you some ET!!

Re: I went 9.82 in the 1/4 YeeHaw

Kwhite,

Dig up some of your more recent 1/8 mile passes and compare the 60's 330 and 1/8 info. I have seen a napkin ruin a timeslip by blowing across the sensors.
