Anyone got an s10 blazer?
I just went out and looked at a 95 S10 blazer for my son in law. He needs a good all purpose vehicle to go to work with and all and this was pretty much in the price range so we bought it. It has the automatic overdrive trans 6 cylinder vortec and seems pretty good. Only thing i dont like is its got that the electronic 4WD . Anyone have any advice or comments?
its a 95 with 137K on it and we got it for $2000...and that was the cheapest 4wd we could find with less than 155K on it I will post pics when we pick it up

Re: Anyone got an s10 blazer?
My wifes 2wd is a 2000,the only issue I have with it is that they put the flip lever for the drivers seat(i think pass also) right even with where the seat belt buckle lands as you close the door. This means when you shut the door(and you don't have to slam it) the door shuts on the seat belt buckle and breaks the tilt lever for the seat off.It actually breaks the shaft(cast or pot metal)I ain't taking that seat out again.Hers has 60K on it with just tires and oil changes.I did have the rear brakes done(go figure the fronts were OK).I think I've put a battery in it twice. The 4,3 is a good motor and actually has some pep for what it is.For $2000.00 you probably did good for a work truck.

Re: Anyone got an s10 blazer?
The 4wd dash switch on our 95 is a real mickey mouse deal. The switch will eventually break. Be gentle pushing it's buttons. I've replaced 3 in 78k. Never had problems with the newer style switch on our 98.

Look at the frame where the control arms attach to their brackets. This is a common place for cracking on these.

Re: Anyone got an s10 blazer?
for being such a weird system they are quite reliable. just make sure you excercise the system once in a while.
the frame cracks are an issue, but if you find it i would weld it up good. |

Re: Anyone got an s10 blazer?
The biggest issue we had with my wife's 95 was the CPI fuel system. Sooner or later it will start running rich and acting like a carbed engine with the choke stuck on.
That will be a problem with the plastic fuel lines or fuel press regulator inside the intake. At least now you can buy the parts seperate. My take on the push button 4x4 is they're all a joke. But the push botton system on the S-series isn't any worse than the ones with a lever in the floor. You're still relying on vac and/or electrical to engage the front axle. It's another one of those, "not if but when", it fails. All that said, they're not to bad of vehicles.. for "modern convience over function" style stuff.

Re: Anyone got an s10 blazer?
Sorry i havent gotten back with yall sooner.. I had a trip scheduled to Atlantic City with the wife and we kinda just got back and i got my head above water with work that piled up while away..
Anyway we did some checking and luckilly the issue was not with the frame no kinds of cracks.. the upper control arm bushings were toast and when we checked the front end we found out the truck needed the left lower ball joint. the front tires were kind of iffy so i decided to replace them too so for $510 i did the work on the front end (including an allignment at the shop) My son works in a jiffy lube so we went there and i had the oil done and with fresh oil the motor sounds even better I also went and had the trans fluid done at my buddys shop in long island. There are only two other things wrong with it, and that is we found the radiator has a leak , but i need a new radiator cause it is kinda rusty and with the plastic tanks it doesnt pay to boil it out and have it sealed, and i dont know if the 4wd switch is ok or not What goes on with that is that when my SIL takes off especially from the line and makes a turn, it seems like it is kinda gripping at the front ( feels like a front wheel drive with the wheel chirp, except no noise) not sure if its a common four wheel drive thing or not as im no expert on four wheel drive, and the truck doesnt seem to go into four wheel drive low, but being as hes not using it as a plow rig, i dont care if that works or not.. as long as this truck works well for him to go to and from work and jobs and to take my granddaughter to the doctors and wherever else the family needs to go im happy. for a total of $3100 or so im real happy Oh and the radiator i have a friend with a body shop who sent me to his supplier to get the radiator and they gave me the rediculouosly low price of like $65 for the radiator aftermarket ( imported) so monday ill have to get him to order it for me and ill pick it up and tuesday il install it for the SIL

Re: Anyone got an s10 blazer?
I have a 98' ZR2 with about 240k miles. Engine has never been rebuilt but trans was at 178k. I sold my 98' Blazer to buy this truck. BOTH trucks had the radiator blow out and fuel pumps go up. Around here these trucks are plentiful and cheap but I love them
