Rims are Bent, So am I.
Ok my 47 Pickup had some tires going flat while we were working, so I decided to go ahead and buy some cheap goodyears to stop the air up hassle.
I bought 215 70 15's and they rub in the front where the steering is (original manual steering. Now they rub more or less depending on where the tire is rotated (not steering but spun) , in other words as you turn it, it will rub and then not, then rub etc. So I'm into a rim issue here. I would like to keep 15's on it. And while I have heard stuff about older Toyota rims I can't find information or help locally or online. Locally they would like me to bring it in, but with no doors seats, seat belts or steering wheel that drive might be a little dangerous. I guess the tires I have can be returned as I have not driven on them. My question is pretty much with stock steering, on a stock front end. What backspacing am I looking for so that I can avoid any chance of rubbing and at the same time keep the tires inside the fender. I had taken into consideration adding like .5 spacers, but that seems alittle foolish with bent rims. Any help would be awesome at this point, as I have a fear of the future being full of returns and tire swaps. |

Re: Rims are Bent, So am I.
Are you sure the rims are bent? If both are doing the same thing, I would suspect another issue. Look at the mounting surface around the bolt circle. Is there anything that might prevent the rims from mating flat on the surface?
I am assuming you still have drum brake fronts, and suspect that the wheels might be for disc brake applications. Check for mounting issues and report back.
