Louvered Hood?
So I live in Western New York and I'm thinking of trading for a louvered hood this summer. Would this work out as long as I swap it out for a normal when snowfall comes?

Re: Louvered Hood?
I ran with no hood for allmost a year rain sleet and snow with no problems.
But I had the PCV sealed and engine breather inside the air-cleaner (big 454) and modified factory ram air so water wouldn't get in. Go for it, the engine will run so much cooler! |

Re: Louvered Hood?
My old man louvered the hood on his Mustang several years ago and he installed a deflector of some kind under it. As I recall, it was spaced away from the louvers and it had formed lips along the edges and a water drain hose.
I don't know if that's just something they do up here in "rain country" or what, but I suppose that could be an option too.

Re: Louvered Hood?
So were they louvers actually functional for air flow?

Re: Louvered Hood?
Yeah, the louvers passed a lot of air. The baffle was spaced something like an inch under the louvers or something like that.
I wish I had more details, but it would seem to me that if nothing else you could make bracket provisions while you're having your louvers punched (and before paint) at least... That way if the baffle idea doesn't work out for you it just doesn't get used and nothing is lost.

Re: Louvered Hood?
we used to plug hood scoops when necessary back in the day, look at it for awhile and I'll bet you can come up with a way to use it in the winter...
