72 Body on a 79 frame?
I know the question has been asked before, but I really don't see the difference, so maybe somebody could talk me though it.. I have a 72 short bed and am looking at putting it on a 79 short bed 4x4 frame.. I searched the web for pictures. and found one of a bare 71 frame.. the other a 75. They look the same. Please help me out and tell me what the differences are and what obstickles i may run into with this mod. Thanks!!

Re: 72 Body on a 79 frame?
Hi - Welcome to the best truck board ever !!!
The 67-72 have a fairly flat bottom on the cab, the 73-87 cab floors raise up at the back to clear the frame. I think you would need to notch the cab at the rear to clear the frame, or do a body lift. Others on here can steer you in the right direction.

Re: 72 Body on a 79 frame?
So does anyone else have info on this. I just bought a 78 4x4 and plan on putting my 69 2wd body on it. Looking for any info I would need to know about this task. Also any good web sites for part for a 78, I was told I will want to do some work on the steering box mounts.

Re: 72 Body on a 79 frame?
A buddy of mine put his 72 on a 78 frame. I was asking him some about it. He drives it everyday and uses it in his logging business. If I remember correct, he said the cab wasn't too much of a problem, lining the bed up was. He said if he ever did it again, he'd keep the original frame and change over the running gear!

It's not that bad or hard to do. Mine was done in about a weeks time in the evenings and a weekend.
