Retrosound feedback -
I have changed my mind after sending my unit back to Retrosound. I called them up and a real person answered, and gave me a return number for my unit, which I shipped to them. 5 days later I had a new unit - not only new, but the updated verion. Their customer service is incredible and I will make this unit work. I didn't really want to cut my dash.
However, I am still having a problem with the thumb drive. I plug it in while the truck is not running, and it works fine. When I use it while the truck is runng, and I rev the motor, it either starts the song over or just ceases to operate properly. The radio and the Ipod work fine, it's just the usb port that I'm having problems with. Could it be that I'm getting engine interference that is screwing up the thumb drive and not the Ipod or radio? And is there a filter or something I can put on to alleviate the problem? I'm pretty sure it's not the radio, because the first one did the same thing. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Retrosound feedback -
I would contact the company again. They seem to be very helpful already and they may have the answer.
I'm not familiar with the units at all, so I can't off you more advice, sorry.

AceX, I sense a little sarcasm in that comment. I know, I know, it's definitely not the greatest unit in the world, and I have sacrificed quality for the sake of my uncut dash, but I've bought it now and I'm gonna get my money out of it before I break down and get a real stereo. And who knows, they may be making high quality units that fit the original hole by then.

No, no sarcasm at all. I'm dead serious. Contact the company and talk to them.
In the comoing years there will probably be a decent unit out that will provide all the functions that audiophiles are looking for in an appearance package that purists are looking for. Until that day however, we need to ame do with what is available.

Good thing to check. The USB itself is solid state, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. Maybe a power blip or loose connection.

Re: Retrosound feedback -
i know that, i meant the USB plug itself could lose contact with one of the contacts on the plug

Re: Retrosound feedback -
The truck doesn't shake, and it still won't work right. I do have a Skip white 65K Hei in the truck. Could that be creating interference enough to mess it up? I did talk to the guys at Retrosound, but I'm getting tired of pulling the radio out of the truck and not feeling confident that the problem will be fixed. I have thought of using another hot lead. Any ideas? I'm not much of an electrician.

Re: Retrosound feedback -
Dan, please call Chris (our tech) at 888-325-1555 or email him at : support@retrosoundusa.com your ignition lead is somehow interfering with the radio--- we have a fix. By connecting a transistor or relay to the ignition lead & constant power lead, that will allow constant power to be applied to the turn on lead, thus bypassing the ignition lead's 12 volt signal--- hopefully ending this for you. Our tech can send a transistor out to you and explain how it works. Also, please check if your HEI is using a separate box, sometimes if its separate and mounted directly to the metal frame, it will disrupt the electrical system or ground system of the truck, mounting and isolating it from metal is a good precaution if your HEI falls into this category.
Many thanks for your patience, we look forward to hearing from you soon! Best Regards, Michael Robbins Product Manager Retro Manufacturing www.retrosoundusa.com www.retrobeltusa.com Last edited by RETROSOUNDUSA; 06-11-2009 at 12:31 PM. |
