If You Could Build One.....

If you were given an unlimited amount of cash flow,
what 67-72 would you build and name every option/change.

mine would be a 72 Cheyenne, make it a quad cab shortbox dually, bagged on 22.5" 10 lug dually wheels. And all new running gear. 6.6L Duramax with an alison tranny.

what about you guys?

Re: If You Could Build One.....

fuel injected big block, make is as big as possible, just for the hell of it. beefed up 6 speed stick. I'll keep my 6-lug Dana 60. LWB, static dropped low. 15x10 rally's in back, sitting some street ETs. gun metal black, and keep my orange. exhaust cut outs to keep it quite when prowling, but to open up at wide open throttle.

or leave the body rusty, do all the above, and make it the rice hunter

Re: If You Could Build One.....

I'd say 67 Crew cabbed, keep the small window, 500hp twin turbo'd 12v cummins, 6 speed stick, 4x4, 6" lift 35's or 38's, dual exhaust, not stacks. Also it would have to have machine guns that popped out from behind the headlights, smoke screens and oil slick sprayers. Then I'd have to add an auto pilot for thse long trips...I'm sure ther's more, but it's 1am and work starts at 7:30am

67 small window extended with short wide. Some kick a$$ handling suspension and wide tires. Nascar"ish" engine with a 6 speed. Something scary as heck to drive and puts a smile on my face you can't pry off. Call it a 67 amusement park ride if you will.

Re: If You Could Build One.....

Since I can dream big.I would do a 67 small window slightly extended (3-4 in) cab, stepside bed, with a all aluminum mega cubic inch small block(454), with twin turbos and intercoolers.A 6 speed overdrive with A/C,rack and pinion, hydroboost brakes and lowered 2 1/2-4.I think a set of 17 in rallies in a 10-12 in width on back under widened step fenders.Color would be a reder/browner mettalic than "Copperhead" and interior would be a leather in brown/tan.3" exhaust with cutouts, tubular control arms. Most suspension parts and underhood would be painted/powdercoated with stainless bolts throughout the truck.Everything would be detailed, waxed and then assembled to make it easier to keep clean.Wood bed floor. Then I would drive it like I stole it.

Re: If You Could Build One.....

I'm a little strange but I would want to build up a rig like this.

68 front clip, Bag it, Duramax diesel, paint it pearl white or some sort of pimpin red, put on a nice nostalgic striping and lettering, update the emergency lights (but keep them old school), a federal Q2B siren on top, rework the patient compartment to make an awesome tailgate/party truck out of it.

Re: If You Could Build One.....

Well, now that you ask, I would have a ’69 suburban. I want it built with a 4th door, 4x4 with a 6 inch lift, and some 18” Bonspeed Rodr’s. I’d also want a 6.0L built up to 500hp, and a 6-speed automatic. The interior would have bucket seats for the front, bucket seats for the second row, and a 3rd row bench seat for the back; all done in black velour with silver accents. Of course it would have power disc brakes, power steering, tilt column, a/c (front and rear), electric windows, and have the barn doors out back. The exterior would have a ’67 GMC front clip, and the color would be the light green color from an early 2000’s Volkswagen Beetle.

As stated previously, I haven't thought about this much.

Re: If You Could Build One.....

I'd have to go with a '67 K-30 dually pickup (pretty much like mine) but I'd have a 6V53-T Detroit 2-stroke with NV4500 and 19.5 Alcoas and big 5" single stack. It would be black with a red interior and buddy buckets. With just tweaking the IP and changing injectors you can 500HP and around 900 ft lb with a 6V53-T and I'd have to have a Jake on it.

Re: If You Could Build One.....

I would do a 1972 short step 4x4 all stock numbers matching. I was going that direction to begin with, but jacked it up and mod-ed the drive train in the process. This may sound silly to some of you guys, but I would like to see what one of these pickups would drive like right off the lot, I mean before some of the PO's that have had them before us and put their own distasteful twist on them.

Re: If You Could Build One.....

i would re-restore the 71 custom deluxe k10 that i bought from my dad to exactly how my dad restored it in 1991 but i will keep the wagoon wheels(i think thats what there called) that he added later and loose the topper that he also added later

i would also do a full frame off no expense spared restoration on my 68 k10 back to factory, aside from a few mod and swaps that are saftey related
(cst,ac tinted windows, 327, sm465, dana front axle, 3.73, 506 medium blue, paint stripe, bue vinyl interior, wood bed, am radio, am-oil gauges, oil bath air cleaner)

Re: If You Could Build One.....

Good wishful thinking question. Since I already have plenty of toys in various degrees of disrepair. What I am missing would be a 72 one ton motorhome, with either a turbo charged big block or a duramax turbo-diesel, either engine with an Allyson transmission. Got to have an airbag suspension for a comfy ride. And a flame job..... gotta have a flame job

Re: If You Could Build One.....

Hard question.

I've often thought how it would be if I could do a ground up on my 71 with a Duramax and Allison and matching rear with all the trimmings.

As far a s dream trucks my Ideal 67/72 has always been a ground hugging short wide with a more than stout engine, great interior and all the bells and whistles. So far I have had three that I never got started on because someone came along with too good an offer before I even got started on any of them.

Probably a 70 GMC Crew Cab longbed dually with some sort of diesel or a 454 or something. Or I would build a 69 C-30 tow truck with a late 90s wheel lift bed with a 502 and smoke stacks.
