Teminology, steering wheels, and carpet, oh my!
I'm trying to place an order for some parts to keep the project rolling, and I need some help first.
1. Terminology: What do you call the little air vents in the kick panels? I need some new ones, but can't seem to figure out what they are called, so I can't search for them. 2. Steering Wheels: What do I need to look for when ordering a new wheel? I'm not looking for stock, too pricey, but I wasn't sure what I needed. Do different wheels mount differently... need adapters...are the universal for the most part or what? I'm really lost and feeling quite stupid here. 3. Carpet: I see two types listed, one for big transmission hump, one for a small hump. How do I know which one I have? Any recommendations on brands on places to buy? Right now I'm leaning towards cheaper is better... maybe from brothers. I know the carpets wont be the best from there, but the truck's not going to be a show queen by any stretch of the imagination. 4. Sending Unit: I have a new fuel cell with a 90 Ohm sending unit. I found a nice set of Autometer gauges I like, but on the fuel gauge it says 240ΩE/33ΩF. I have no idea what on earth that means. Help! Thanks, and sorry for the dumb questions. Just when I feel like I know everything too. Last edited by madmatt54; 03-18-2009 at 11:23 PM. |

1. Floor vents or kick panel vents will get the point across. I've never seen them in a catalog, so I'd guess you'll need used ones.
2. Aftermarket may need an adapter, but later model truck wheels fit. Not sure to what year, but mine has a wheel from a 88 or newer truck. 3. The high humps bolt on. 4. 240 Ohms empty and 33 full I'd guess. Not sure how that will work out with a 90 Ohm sending unit. Maybe a resistor in series with the sending unit? |

Witha 0-90 ohms sending unit, you'll need a gauge that utilizes that same ohm range. The 240-33 ohm gauge won't work. I'm pretty sure that Autometer makes fuel gauges that are 0-90 ohms.....but maybe not in the style you want. Try looking at Stewart Warner, or Dolphin, gauges....there's a couple more that I can't think of right now. Also depending on your fuel cell, you may be able to change the sender to match the gauge you want. Try contacting the dealer or mfg of the fuel cell.

Re: Teminology, steering wheels, and carpet, oh my!
Autometer does make a 0-90 ohm fuel guage.....bought one to match my fuel cell. Found in Summit catalog.
The high hump is for 4-spd equiped vehicles from the factory....its BIG. If the hump is low, its practically non-exsistant. The floor would be nearly flat all the way across, from door to door.
