Help finding acceptible stock looking rims - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well I am doing my build as a stock looking truck. The rims are split rims and no one here will work on them. So I need to get a stock looking white rim. It would be nice to use the original chrome hub caps as well.

Any thoughts? Where to look?

Yup, the boneyard is your best bet. I'm sure there's a bunch up there out in the country. When I'm in Laramie visiting family these trucks are everywhere.

You could try a set of these, they are stock.

Not on a 72. No 67-72 had that style ralley rims. For that matter, they didn't have the 4x4 ralley rims either. Lots of people put them on, because they look good, but stock they are not.

If you want to be period correct, the 16.5" one piece wheel is what was used in the early 70's 3/4 tons (tires are still available, but usually more expensive and harder to find).If you just want to upgrade,the mid 80's 3/4 ton 16" one piece rims are your best bet( and very plentiful) if you want to keep your vehicle stock looking with popular 16" tires( and still match your glove box decal size). Stay away from 90's rims, they wont accept your hubcaps.Here is a mid 80's 16" wheel on an 85 series(taller than 75 series)radial tire.The 85 series tire is approx. the same diameter of the original 7.50- 16 bais ply tire.

Your profile doesn't say what model of truck you have but since you have split rims you probably have six or 8 lug rims. I like the looks of the rally style wheels on the 6 lug and 5 lug trucks to make for a dressy but still stock looking truck even if the rims are the wrong year for the particular truck.

True the rally rims aren't stock to the particular trucks but they have the outward appearance of being stock to the general passerby.

For an 8 lug truck the mid 70's/early 80's stock rims should be pretty inexpensive in 16 inch. I have 16x8 alloy rims but run a 245-16 tire that is the same size as my son's 2000 GM 4x. The good thing is that my speedometer is spot on when tracked by my handheld gps.

Oh it for a 72 2wd.

Did you try a big rig shop? Plenty of big rigs still ride on split rims and know how to mount tires the safe way. Most passenger car shops won't let their employees touch split rims mainly due to insurance reasons.

Many small farm tractors also run split rims. You should be able to get a set of tires and have a shop mount them for you.

Do you have a C20 ? We didn't have split rims, but had the 16.5 wheels. Found some slighty newer Chevy 16.0 rims at a junkyard. Easier to find tires and hubcaps still fit.

lets not turn this into a parts thread.
Split rims only came on 3/4 ton and one ton trucks, so lets talk 8 lug aplications, not 5 lug rallys.
Your best bet IMO would be to get some 16 inch rims off a mid 70's to early 80's 3/4 ton pick up. They are usually pretty cheap in wrecking yards.
You can get 16.5s that'll be more correct (they were avalible on these trucks) but the tire choice is limited and expensive.
