Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

I am wondering that same thing.

I'm thinking about going with a side fill on towards the rear of the fender. I don't like the idea of having to climb up into the bed to fill the tank.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

I am going to put mine next to the driver rear stake pocket on the inside. I got a tank with a side discharge. I have pictures of one that was put in the stake pocket with boat style flush cap, but you have to cut up the lower rear cross brace more than I like. Like you I don't want to crawl in the bed with my bad knees and drag the hose across the bed side and tailgate. another option is side door, I just did not want that.

I think with a fleetside you have some more options.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

Thats what I"m trying to figure out, where can you hide it on a short step? Like Orrie pointed out, dragging the hose into the bed will become a pain. Then there is the problem if you have a load in the bed and need to fuel up!?

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

I did a rear filler neck right under the bed, since I have a rear mounted tank, and it's hidden.
Here's some pics.

I built a custom bumper, made a place for the tag to go, then I went to the junk yard and got a flip down license plate mount.

Although, my truck is on a '75 chevy frame, and my body isn't sitting right down on the frame.

you got the filler neck below the rear sill? what tank did you use? im using a universal mustang tank from tanks inc, and with the tank on the bottom rail of the frame, the filler needs to go straight thru the rear sill.

i like the bed fill my self it's just how far you need to lean over to use it that seems to be the problem.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

i went with a bed fill on my 50. its ok until you are at the gas station and gas spills all over the wood bed because the gas nozzle had some gas left in it from the previous user.

I cut a fill door into the rear fender. I posted a thread about it here.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

Nice job on that fuel door. I really want to keep the fenders clean, and I don't really want to have the fill inside the bed. Within the next couple of weeks I should have my tank and filler installed. My tank is only 7 inches top to bottom , so I can mount it on the bottom of the rail with no issues with the tank hanging too low.

The rear of the rear fender makes it less noticeable but still easy to get to.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

My plan is to mount this jeep bezel in the rear sill. I have to add about two inches of metal below the sill in the middle to create a large enough surface to mount the bezel and also mount the flip down license plate bracket on the bottom of the extra strip of metal I will add

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

Thinking a rectangular gas filler bezel would be easier / work better. Anyone have a suggestion ? I want it to look more finished than just cutting a hole or notching the rear sill...
Found this on the Internet.....

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

Adding mine since someone may reference this thread in the future. Fleetside bed so the side spear keeps it pretty low. I looked at in bed solutions but figured the odds were pretty good I might have the truck full (it will be used) when I wanted to fill up. Door is out of a mid 90's caravan, I made a template of the bed curve and took it to junk yard. I wanted a round door so I did not have to worry about getting it square! Has inside cable latch which I kept. I also grabbed the file tube, but did not use it, I modified the stock one and used a tailpipe adaptor to get from 2" caravan to 1.5" tank. It is pretty flat but fuel fill in on the top of the tank so after a few miles will settle down.

Re: Gas Tank Fillers?

I've seen some custom applications use pop up motorcycle gas cap and neck bungs, weld them in and they are flush with the surface. Plan on doing this unless I end up rear mounting tank and hiding it behind the plate or something like that.
https://www.kindigit.com/store.php

some good pictures here, bout half way down. First time I saw it was on one of their cars.
