Fixing a gas tank float

Well I fixed my gas gage today it wasnt all that bad I pulled the old sending unit out of the take "3 min tops" and I knew right then what was wrong. The float had a hole in it where the clap claps onto the brass float. It was full of gas.

Now I just had to fix it or buy a new one I checked and couldnt get a new one for over a week. Well I wanted it done now soooo I thought on it and this is what I did.

I just cleaned it real well and the arm that has the clamp that holds it. Then I got my sodering gun out and some fux. I couldnt fill the hole with lead and just stick it back on because it would just get punched back through by the clamp. Thats why I just sodered the two together or the float onto the arm/clamp. The arm/clamp filled the hole and then the sodered parts together sealed it up good.

I dont think it added too much wieght to it to efect how it works but my gage works now.

The only trouble I had was when my wife walked in to me washing out all the gas out of the float in the kitchen sink LOL
