What other engines can I swap right in in leiu of a 2.5? I dont need to hear small block, bigblock, jet engine, etc, its a doggy little fuel effcient 4 cyl and I want it to stay thay way, my little girl is going to drive this for petes sake! Does anyone out west know where to locate a good 2.5L or a sutible substitute? Just looking for some ideas, I havent dabbled in the mini truck arenas much and was looking for some ideas! A direct replacement is your best bet. A 4.3 will fit in there very nicely too. A 4.3 with a carb, intake, headers and soft foot will get decent gas milage.

Turbo 3.8 will bolt to the transmission in the truck.

Thanks Fellas! Those little 2.5L Iron Dukes are hard to find used, folks run the snot out of em, a few cores in the boneyards not much running stuff on mypartshop.com, I was hoping to find a wreck or someone that pulled the little "sewing machine" out for a bigger powerplant swap, and had one sitting around, I got this little truck in primer she just needs a motor, then me and the girl will wetsand her down and shoot on the paint!

UltraBlue71 as mentioned, any of the factory optional motors would be your best solution.

4.3, or a 3.8 won't bolt up to your existing transmission. The bell housing bolt pattern is different. Now, if you want a direct fit drop in a 2.8 out of another S10, or 3.1,3.4 out of a firebird or camaro. those will bolt up to your existing transmission. but you'll have to do some wire and such to make it run. if you keep it fuel injected.
To bad your so far away. a friend of mine has the 2.5 that was removed for a v8 swap ran good to.

Damien, I was thinking the early Chevy 3.8L
That would be a cool little ride with a GN motor stuffed in there. Theres a local here that stuffed one of those set-ups in a 2 door chevette. That is/was a sweet little ride. It's been awhile since I've seen him out in it.

Dadgummit! Story of my life! Too far away, a day late, a dollar short, I'll post a few of these suitible Substitute motor suggestions into CL for the Boise area. Have any of you ever shipped a motor before? Is it a huge pain? I wonder about cost? Thanks for the replies!

Never shipped a motor before, but it can't be all that hard to do, just the cost of shipping might be killer.
