starter overheating?

If you are running a set of tri-y headers on a 350 and they are within about 4 inches of the starter should there be some sort of heat shield between them? The reason I ask is my Dad only got about 6 months on his starter before it wore out.

You can install a heatshield made of sheetmetal or use a heatwrap type heatshield to protect the starter. Or use heat wrap on that part of the header.

You can also install a small body starter that would clear the headers.
