a little work on my '72...
New radiator, new battery tray, added a trans cooler, and decided I may as well do my grill too....
center section was a junkyard piece with cracks and broken tabs. epoxied it all back together. cleaned and painted a satin black. swapped out to a better bow tie. had a spare shell, and smoothed out the dents/twists in it enough to make it usable, and cleaned and repainted the black around the headlights.... just have to mount my junkyard chrome bumper now....

Re: a little work on my '72...
and the original look....
I think the grill shell I took off was aluminum, but the used one I put on was chromed steel.....

the JY bumper had remnants of some fog light brackets, so since the holes were already there, I put on some New vintage style fogs lights

Re: a little work on my '72...
been a while since anything was done.... the crate engine that was in it blew, so now it has another new crate engine via warranty. Then I had an electrical prolem with the power wire to the HEI Distributor... melted some wires together to the ignition switch, so it wouldn't shut off....
so, wire to the Disty was replaced along with an additional in-line fuse, and 2 wires from the fuselock to the ignition switch were replaced... since I've got the cluster pulled out, I finally combined it with the refurbished one I worked on a year or so ago, and replaced the printed circuit board, as I found mine had some "melting" all lightbulbs tested/replaced. now finishing up the cluster wiring. need to "re-loom" the under-dash harness and look at the fan switch wiring a long as I'm there.. I also picked up a couple of nice doors for it too, and am gonna try and get them on it....

Re: a little work on my '72...
hmmm. previous owner had installed a toggle for the heater blower. way back when I rebuilt my control unit, I bought a new switch, but it still wouldn't work... whadda ya know. the fuse appeared good, but was burnt off at the end apparently. new fuse, and I have a 3 speed fan again, and the toggle has been removed....

Re: a little work on my '72...
new dash pad is in got my updated intrument cluster in (LED bulbs, tach, Voltmeter, and clock new glove box in. fixed light on heater control unit replaced turn signal/hazard switch assembly. original one had the hazard switch busted off... I cut a slot in the printed circuit for the tach wires to go through, and it worked out well. The clock and VM out of the 76 Chevy work well, too... next up is replacing the doors....

Re: a little work on my '72...
started replacent of the drivers side door... got the door off and hinges off, now waiting for new hinges. the originals were prettworn, and the pin was busted off inside, with just a little puvot point holdng it together... lucky the door didn't fall off...
I attempted to get the pins out, but my "pounding base" isn't very good sinc I moved houses... I needed a diff window regulator for the door, and decided the original one was worn enough to warrant a new one, so that's ordered... also decide to replace the rocker while I was there. the one that was there, was jus riveted/screwed in place from a previous owner, and until I'm able to do the full proper body work the cab needs, the new one will be a temp installed in the same manner... and I found the fuel gage wire had broken, ending the search for why the gauge woudn't work....

Re: a little work on my '72...
OK. a bit more done.... along with trimming the hedges and othe yard work
replace the rocker and got the new hinges installed, then the solid replacement door... after I got the door hung and lined up, then I moved on to a new window regulator. Now that job was a PITA. I tried following the instructions in the FAQ. not sure if it's because it's a 72 with the screw/brace under the vent window or what, but it sucked... cleaned up a set of door panels I got from DieselWrencher (thanks!) They had a woodgrain panel so the scrollwork was still perfect, and not faded/discolored. Then I used some Krylon Fusion pain for plastic.... I also have new black armrest/handles to install...

Re: a little work on my '72...
finished up the door, and drained the trans, and put on a new gasket. no more tranny leaks...
took it on a couple hundred mile round trip cruise yesterday for a family reunion... fuel gauge still not working though. it's got a new sender, new wire from sender to fuse panel, and have tried 2 different guages... looks like I'll be checking the rest of the wiring....

Re: a little work on my '72...
try the printed circuit....since you've isolated a lot of the other potential issues....check out the back for any breaks in the circuit...

Re: a little work on my '72...
the printed circuit was a good one I just replaced... I got some new resistors for both e fuel and temp gauges....
might get at them this week. today I installed a 15,000 lb class IV hitch.. it was a beast!
