3/4Ton 16" Steel Wheel Question...
I just inherited my dad's 1980 3/4Ton Sierra 5.7L, long bed. Its 100% original and want to keep it that way at least for now.
Right now it has the 16.5" rims which i want to change for some 16", more tire choices. Are there any factory 16" steel rims that would fit my truck? I want to keep the same width, 6-7" and be able to reuse the original hub caps. Is this about right? Would I be able to find these wheels? Did any other years have these sizes? I really dont want to go aftermarket. Also what were the stock tire and wheel sizes for this these trucks. Thanks for any help, Ill post some pics of the truck later. |

Re: 3/4Ton 16" Steel Wheel Question...
The old 72 I had, had factory 16 inch steel wheels, but they were off a mid 80's ford. They looked stock and the chevy hubcaps fit great. You should be able to find more than enough at your local junkyard...

Any of the 8 lugs wheels should fit your truck, I have the 2002 aluminum wheels on my truck, they have the new style steel rally wheels that will fit too.

Re: 3/4Ton 16" Steel Wheel Question...
look around and you will find plenty of chevy 8 lug 16 inch wheels. I have 2 sets myself. I think they switched to 16" in the mid-late 80's, so they fit the original hubcap and will look 100% factory.

16" wheels were optional in 1980. I ordered them on my truck. Good choice then and now!

Here's my 78's old original 16's they're the skinny as crap wheels though. The tread on those tires only measured 5.5 inches across.

If you were closer I'd give you a set I've got behind my garage. I'll never use them but just can't junk em.

Re: 3/4Ton 16" Steel Wheel Question...
Also, use a chevy wheel in front and ford in the rear. A lot of ford 8 lugs have less back spacing than the chevy. The rear tires will stick out a little past the fronts. Ford wheels fit up till 1997. Just a pet peeve of mine. Your chevy hub caps will fit just fine on the ford wheels. Usually, ford wheels have a small logo around the lug area.
