Re: ram air ?
I made mine its an 88 crew cab and yes thats 4" pipe
on the 81-91 core support they have 4" holes on each side of the radiator. I went and looked at a 70 somethings core support and it looks like you could blow a hole in it.

Re: ram air ?
Look at Philatruck's post. It is a pretty inexpensive route, and it looks good too!

Re: ram air ?
Mine have had holes on both sides. I've cut/ or removed the cover from the front part on the factory setup and the baffle in the air cleaner in the past. Technically, that is ram air--and nothing is cheaper.
gchemist--I likey.

Re: ram air ?
My truck has the RamAir air cleaner box....the ducting and mounts at the core support are from the local hardware store. Dryer ducting.

Re: ram air ?
It may look nice, but I've always thought that actual power from this was something of a myth.
Not just the ram part (insinuating that there's some sort of turbo effect) but the colder outside air on a street engine won't produce a noticeable difference in power. I'm not much for adding things that could fall off w/o a real advantage. Then again, mine's a 4x4, so not much can help in performance. Any thoughts? |

Re: ram air ?
Who said I'm running a street engine? Okay, just kidding.
The ram effect only happens at inconveniently high speeds, but the increased density of colder air, the increased mass of a given volume, increases engine output. If you want proof, look a drag times at high altitude. Heck, I noticed a difference in higher RPM power when I flipped air box lid.
