Rebuild of my K-10

I decided to finally make a build thread for this truck. I bought it in spring of 2007. It had been a former mud run truck and at one point the drivers side got beat up and the door and fender were replaced but left in primer. I painted it right away though so i didnt get any pictures.

As you can tell in this picture the drivers bedside had some damage also but i planned to replace the bed so i didnt bother fixing it when i did the door and fender.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

I drove it like that for a little while but it wasnt big enough for me with just the body lift so i bought a 4 inch rough country suspension lift, then the tires were to small so i bought some used 36x12.50 Super swampers. I also got a goodmark cowl induction hood and a billet grill around the same time.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

Then in Sept. of 2008 we got a big wind storm and i was standing on my back porch looking at a little tree that fell on our garage and another tree uprooted and landed on my truck and did this.

The tree weighed so much that my rear suspension was completely bottomed out and the rear leaf springs had no arch to them untill we got the tree cut up and pushed it off the bed.

It caused about $4000 in damage so my insurance company just totalled it out but i bought it back for $300 and used my insurance check to buy my sonoma

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

The truck sat in my back yard and the tires started going flat so put some 31's I had on some rally rims on it and gave the tires away and used the aluminum slots on my 68 GMC

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

then after sitting all winter a guy i work with saw an ad for a 78 chevy truck in our local news paper so i went and bought it as a parts truck because the transfer case was bad and the frame was pretty rotten.

It came with a great running motor and a nice set of tires so i think i got my moneys worth.

Here are both of the trucks together.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

If anyone noticed in the last picture, the blue truck got a stepside bed that i had laying in my basement in pieces. I had bought that bed before the tree ever crushed my other one because i liked the way lifted stepsides look.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

looks like a fun project... I like the aluminum slots...

I also requested to have this moved over to our 4x4 project builds.. that must have been a BIG tree...

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

Oh sorry didn't realize there was a different 4x4 section. And yes it was a big tree. You couldnt see the truck when the tree fell on it. I thought everything was going to be crushed but somehow the tree sortof formed a cave over the front end. I still ended up with a dent in my fairly new cowl hood though.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

I like it, Im wondering what your plan is regarding paint/ new body lines. Specificly lower bed line-lower front fender line. Might just be the pic but looks like 2 different levels. I like the way the wheel wells line up and almost match up though. Also what engine/trans/transf you runnin in that beast? Looks like a lot of fun, Keep up the good work, and we lurve teh progress picshures XD

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

I'll probalby paint the whole thing blue when i get to that point. My Cowl hood has SS style stipes on it already so i'll probably keep them. The truck has a mildly built 350 w/ Weiand intake and Edlebrock carb, 4 speed tranny, and 205 transfer case. It runs extremely well. I can do a 15-20mph rolling burnout if i get rolling along in first gear and kick the four barrel in.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

I sold the spoke wheels a long time ago. They didnt have the right offset for these trucks anyway. They rubbed my tie rod ends a little and you couldnt balance the tires because they took the stick on weights and as soon as you drove the brake caliper ripped the weights off because they were to close.

Very nice looking truck, too bad about the damage - gonna look very good with the step bed too!

I'm kind of getting the feeling that there isn't too much traffic in this subforum unfortunately.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

jott06- Dude that truck was sweet as hell at first. Dam that tree. I also like the way it looks rite now. So whats next? More lift? U gonna go with the same color as it was at first? This is an awesome build thread. I've been working on my 84 short wide 4x4 lately also. It has a 6" lift and some 18" wheels with 35's. I want to put a 3" body lift on it next. I didnt mean to hi-jack ur thread, but u got me all excited bout workin on the ol truck.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

Thanks for all of the compliments. No real updates lately. I did build a floor for the stepside bed though out of 3/4 plywood using all of the factory crossmembers. I got tired of not being able to haul anything.

I love the way big rims look on these trucks when there lifted.

Re: Rebuild of my K-10

so i got tired of having a multi color truck so i sanded it down and sprayed it with satin black tractor paint. I kept the gloss silver stripes on the hood though. I think it looks pretty good.
