My new 60 turd
Finally back in the game. With losing my job last year, and still no work, I basicly sold everything I had obtained over the past 15yrs.
So no more 8 to 18 thousand dollar cars or trucks as toys. I need a second vehicle, because I may be flipping burgers in 3-4 weeks when unemployment runs out, and all we have is my wifes 99 Suburban. I took some of our tax refund and set myself a very tight budget, to find something to drive daily(until snow and salt). I could of bought many different newer S10's or caviliers etc., but wanted something old and fun. At least I can still cruise it and enjoy it. I've always loved old worn-out shop truck styled trucks. I've had many. So I'm cruising CL, and spotted a 1960 Chevy short fleet. After talking to the guy, and hearing he bought it from his brother in NC 10 years ago, and its never even seen Ohio roads, I was curious. So me and the kids road-tripped to his place today. What I found was: I really clean 60 short fleet with a early 70's 250 straight 6 and a TH350 auto. Tons of new parts, rubber seals, gaskets, lens, a new cherry bed kit. Body has very little rust, very little. Few bubbles here and there. 100 times nicer than most everything you usually see in Ohio. He started taking it apart 2yrs ago to paint it, but stalled on it and there it set, in his pole barn. So the bed is just sitting loose on the frame right now, and the bed kit isn't installed, lights and lens out etc. The whole chassis was painted por-15, with entirely new brake system. New lines, hoses, hardware etc. It has new 15" skinny white radial tires on stock wheels, which is cool by me. I roll old school anyway. New battery, hoses, alt. A spare good windshield, and boxes and buckets of spare parts. The frame and suspension are super clean. The trailing arms look brand-new. So I'm happy as can be. And shocked by what he took for it. He said he could tell how much I liked it, so he took less than what he wanted. Heres a couple crappy cell-phone pics. I will post better pics later, when its not raining. I'd love to say its getting a color soon, but likely just assembled, lowered and driven this summer. Come fall, it can go to my buddys shop for a nice satin squirt job. He owes me anyway.

Re: My new 60 turd
Great truck! And sounds like an even greater deal! Congrats!!
Personally, I love the "jet pod" hood 60-62 trucks. I've come to appreciate the hell out of mine. Hope you enjoy it too.

Re: My new 60 turd
The thing is, I'm not sold on these hoods....
I actually thought about swapping it out if I stumbled onto a nice 63-66 hood... Need to find pics of trucks done how I like with these hoods. Maybe it'll grow on me. As for price.... He's delivering it tomorrow. I want to get all the parts out and sorted, clean the hell out the interior, take seat out and remove adjustment tracks and re-install lower and farther back, and figure what I'm doing to lower it. I want to be driving this 2 weeks from friday to the first big swapmeet weekend. My buddy sets up a huge display of Moon products and 50s-60's hop up stuff, and we power park by him..haha

Re: My new 60 turd
Nice find! It ought to make for a nice driver/cruiser. It's even all one color on the outside, and the inside as well.
Sorry to hear that this ecomomic BS has hit you so hard.

Re: My new 60 turd
The first Canfield swapmeet is 2 weeks from this friday. I think its may 1-3. If the waether is nice, its pretty damn big. I'll be there all weekend., hopefully driving the 60..haha
Daniel, Your truck is pretty cool. I like what you've done. I have 2 new slam re7 bags, a 5gal tank, and a Thomas comp., so I'm part way there. If I bag the front, its just cutting the torsion bars off and bagging that stock frontend. I saw some guys here do that. I dont mind 6lug wheels and drum brakes. I think I will eventually split the brake lines and do what Cheifrocka did, but since its all brand new stuff and filled with synthetic brake fluid, it may be awhile. And I LOVE that green truck of Dino's with black steelies and www's. I'll have www's on mine within a week. Either portawalls, painted on or whatever it takes. Its really not even a option for me

Re: My new 60 turd
I can leave my driveway and be at Norwalk raceway park in 2 hrs flat, and thats stopping once for wife and kids to use bathroom.
Not sure how far you are north from there, but its worth a ride out if its nice. Plus, if you come on Sat. plan to spend the day. Thats also the first Nostalgia wars race at Quaker City Raceway. We'll be at the swapmeet from early til 3-ish, then head to the track to watch the races. Also, how far are you from Mt. Vernon Ohio? Theres a Nostalgia race, old school hotrod and kustom show at Pacemakers Dragway the following weekend. Theres a bunch of our club guys going and several guys from another local club going. Pre-72 only, but leans HEAVILY towards 30's-early 60's stuff.

Re: My new 60 turd
I want to go to Canfield, hope to see you there. I always get the mailing, but never went, I think it is a hour or so from Parma, Ohio. I too have been layed off for a year now and its just about time to start flipping too.

Re: My new 60 turd
I'll have to see how the truck runs when I get it back on the road. Kinda hesitant about going on a road trip so soon after a complete running gear swap. We'll see how the first few drives pan out. May end up going.
I'm about the same distance to Mt. Vernon. But, I'm moving to southern California that weekend. I'm changing duty stations for the Marines. No more cold Ohio winters for me!! WooHoo!!

Re: My new 60 turd
No way that’s a "turd". You’ve got a great find there and it should make a very dependable vehicle.

If you come up, I'll give you my cell, so I can maybe get you a vendor pass to get in free and park wit us. And the races will be a good time. Its a normal sat nite program, but the first sat of each month they add 4-5 classes for the Nostalgia Wars. 1965 and older, 13.50 and faster, no electronics, stutter boxes, trans brakes etc. Plus Miss Eliminator girls, lots of cool vendors, pinstripers etc.

Re: My new 60 turd
Yeah, beef - you're right. I wasn't trying to downgrade the truck, grumpy. I just like stock looks, for the most part. Hope you enjoy your very sweeet truck. And sorry about the economic situation.
