Question Auto column shift help!

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement for the levers at the lower end of the shift tube? This is from my '69 C20, and as you can see from the pics, it's badly worn from somebody being lazy when shifting. It won't lock in "PARK" and I'm afraid the truck might run me (or some innocent) down at the gas station!

Re: Auto column shift help!

Thats probably due to a binding shifter tube rather than being lazy. If you were to grab the shift lever, it probably doesn't move forward and back very freely.
In all reality, your best bet, would be a replacement column. A good thing to do would be to update to a tilt/van tilt (light modifications needed). This upgrade would be double benificial, one, the tilt part is very nice, and 2, the shifter assembly inside is a betterr design that doesn't jam up like this one.

Yeah, it didn't move back and forth at all when I got it. I took it apart and cleaned/lubed everything and it functions much better. I don't really want to put a $500 column into a $2000 truck, but maybe that's the only option.

Unrestored truck tilts go for a LOT less, and van ones can be found on here for less than 100 from time to time, and honestly, I find them in the junkyards for 25 - 50 bucks on a regular basis... at least, last year when I had time for junk yards.

Re: Auto column shift help!

Thanks, I'll look around. I found one in a junkyard here in Denver yesterday, but it was as bad as mine. I'll keep looking.

I don't know 'cause I haven't gotten mine apart yet. It seems that the single flange (where the linkage attaches) is welded on. The other piece is floating loose behind the spring, but I haven't figured out how to get it apart.

If you can get it off, I'll gladly take it off your hands.

I have considered that. I don't have access to a welder, but I can probably find somebody around here who does.
