1984 Chevy Welding Rig

Im a pipeliner by trade and I have to use a half ton 4x4 as my rig truck cuz thats all I got. I know itd be better to use a 1 ton but I dont have one. I plan to put a superlift 6 in lift kit, all springs no blocks, and 1 ton axels on this truck. Will my truck be level with a 1200 lb. welding machine in the back after the lift and do yall have any ideas on how to make this half tons suspension closer to a 1 ton suspension? I have thought about adding air bags but dont know much about them. Yall throw some ideas out there and thanks in advance....

Chris I think the guys in the 4x4 forum might be your best source of information but let me offer what I know.

You can build the suspension to C-20/C30 specs, but you will still have a C-10 frame.

The 1200# welder might not be too heavy, but I know you guys have a lot of tools, and supplies that go with it. My guess is you will be close to maxing out your frame.

At a minimum you will need to box your front frame to eliminate the steering box issues that are inherent with the 73-87 4x4's.

I would think adding an additional crossmember and some boxing in the rear might be a wise choice as well.

I have no idea how your truck will sit with a lift and a load.

I'm puttin my money on it will sag in the ass bad
here's why a 4wd lifted loses some of its towing capasity so now you throw a 1200 lbs machine in back plus 100+' of lead 3 or 4 jackstands and one of them umbrella's along with whatever you bring home from the job site. see you've already hit a ton of crap and I haven't even said anything about the gang boxes full of company tools that follow you home.

I'd start looking for a 1Ton dually not only will it haul the weight but it will drive better with all the extra weight on it

I see the odd 1/2 ton rig around here,but they are pretty much all running smaller machines like rangers and bobcats on light skid units and helper bags.I prefer the full size machines and a one ton to haul it.
