4 groove crankshaft pulley
Is there such a thing? I am adding a/c to a 350 V8 and it now has a 3 groove crank pulley, but the third position, counting away from the harmonic balancer, has a space between 1st and 2nd grooves, see attached photo.
I'm thinking the components I have are off a smog pump motor that only had power steering. A 3 groove will fit and line up with the water pump pulley, which will be changed to a 2 groove. And then line up with a/c compressor and alternator, but the 3rd groove won't be in line for the power steering pump. Could it be a different pulley is needed for the power steering?

Re: 4 groove crankshaft pulley
The cast iron pulley is available with 2 grooves, giving 4 total with the double steel pulley. I have one on the 68 if you need a pic.

Re: 4 groove crankshaft pulley
Dang, can't edit, have that backwards, you can get a steel pulley for the crank with 2 grooves and add the cast iron one for a total of 4, our 68 had a smog pump at one time so the water pump and crank pulley are double. We added the cast iron pulley to get power steering.

Re: 4 groove crankshaft pulley
I have a 3 grove pulley and it runs AC and PS....... I am pretty sure it goes like this.
Back one goes Crank, PS Middle one Crank, Water Pump Front one- Crank, Water Pump, AC I could be off on which is which. But, I know it does do AC and PS with only a 3 grove pulley.

Re: 4 groove crankshaft pulley
Ya I noticed that also, but the alt/gen does runs off the water pump so it takes 3 grooves, I finally figured it out.

Re: 4 groove crankshaft pulley
yeah. i knew I was missing something. LOL.. but. I also knew that you didn't need 4 grooves to run ac.
I am pretty sure that the middle groove runs the Alt also. If the paint shop hasn't had my truck for 10 friggin months. I might have been able to just look.. LOL

Re: 4 groove crankshaft pulley
I'm not 100% sure if it is the same on civilian trucks, but the military hummers with the old 6.2 or 6.5 have a steel 4 groove pulley that should work.
