The 66 JoeMomma built.

Been working on my 66 since I first joined, so why not have a build thread of it. First I stripped it down and started to clean it by my self but later on said "screw this" so I got it blasted. Put on the POR 15 and am currently putting it back together. I have been debating what to run in the rear. I wanted to take a look at the internals of the differential and found that it was completely gone. The clutch plates were in pieces. The spiders were a complete loss. That pretty much brings you up to speed.

700R4 from a 89 Trans Am and a blazer tank.

Other crap I have acuired.

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

Yeah you can POR-15 after blasting. They just recommend you use their chemical etching and grease remover before applying the paint. I'm no painter, but I'd probably guess that the paint would stick even better if the surface had a little ruffness to it.

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

Kizer is right. It sat for 3 days or so before I put it down. There was some slight surface rust just from sitting. The stuff goes down nice and goes far. I dont know if im sold on it though, maybe when they say it wont scratch they werent thinking you would use a screwdriver. Maybe it just needs to fully cure?

You got it! As far as the body and style I cant think of much if any mods to get it looking better. When it comes to performance, safety and comfort a 40+ year old truck leaves a lot to be desired in these areas.

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

In my compelete gmc I have a 350 Im swapin in. Nuthin special has no oil leakes or burning so it will do. I was thinking since it will not be driven daily why not put a big block for any ocasional haulins or ass whoopins that may be needed.

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

Back to the blasting before the POR-15. They used either a glass or metal media. The frame was left with a pretty rough texture and all the little pieces ie; coils, bolts, calipers and misc brakets got sand and were much smoother.

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

Time for an update. Been paying bills off so its slowed down alot.
Gonna be doing a conversion soon.

Got the front sheet metal, cab and engine back on. I ditched the ext regulated alt in favor of a CS144.

Started on the interior. This is what I get for not checking up on it while I wasnt driving it, this wasnt here a year ago.

Picked up a 9" at a half price sale at the junker. It has the chevy truck pattern.

Fitting in the blazer tank and skid plate.

Relay and thermo switch for the dual speed e-fan Im gonna be installing soon.

I figured Im going to need to install relays and fuses for the power seats, headlights and what ever else may come up.

The 65 burb I just picked up.

FYI: If anyone is debating POR-15 Vs. Powder coating, go with powder coating. I followed their instructions but this crap scratches off like paint. THERE IS NO EASY WAY OUT. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. For $200 more I could have had it done. I should have not been so cheap.
Now for a few questions if you dont mind.
Has anyone used the bowtie overdrives T.V made easy system? Do you really need their kit or will the piece summit sells work the same?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 67-72 van tilt column?

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

you can get a huge version here
not sure why it shows up like a video, just click on the link at the top.
you can thank boundstaffpress for the color diagram, he is a member here.

I'm sorry to hear about the POR......I know you said you followed the directions, did you brush or roll it on? did you clean and degrease your frame before you painted? did you use the POR straight from the can or pour it into a smaller container?

progress is looking good!!!

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

The harness on my column is flat, is it the same?
I first brused it then used a roller but didnt like the way it went on, so I went back to the brush. I didnt use a degreaser or anything like that, just wiped it down w/ a moist cloth. I used a seperate container.
Thanks for the diagram.

Re: The 66 JoeMomma built.

A few updates (not that anyone cares).
I got the bbw inner panel in. Sorry, I wanted to take pictures but when I got there and started I realized I had forgotten my camera. Also put in a 1 piece aluminum drive line. Gonna be installing the a/c setup I found at the junkers.
