bed side removal tips

so i've been removing my bed sides, or at least attempting to but im running into a few problems. after i get about 2 or 3 turns on the nut the bolt just spins in the sheet metal. i ended up cutting a few off but this is very time consuming and i run the risk of damaging something. does anyone have any tips to keep them from doing this? thanks

Metal floor ? Just tighten them they will twist off, best advice I was ever given about those beds. Also where the tubs bolt to the sides, get or borrow an oxy/acetl torch, no mapp gas or propane here. Quickly heat the bolt heads until they are cheery red and let them cool for an hour or so. This will break the rust loose so they won't twist off in the bed sides.

Dont forget there are spot welds in the places marked in the pic that you will have to cut.

Re: bed side removal tips

When I was removing my tubs I had the same problem. I welded a 1/4" rod across all of the bolt heads to hold them in place. The rod was about 36" long so I just laid it on the bolt heads and welded away.

Obviously I replaced the old ones when I put it back together. After all the nuts were off all the bolts cam out at once as one piece and straight into the trash!
