Want to test fire an LT1
Really need some advice & help from the LT1 swappers out there.
![]() What's the least (cheapest) I can get away with to run this until warmup? - Radiator & hoses - Fans - Fuel tank, pump & lines - Battery & ign switch - Stand to run on - Harness - can I hookup power, ign & fans only? (besides motor & maf) - VATS - how can I work around this? - General advice on firing a motor that's been sitting OR, is this even a good idea?? ![]()

Re: Want to test fire an LT1
Well I never tried to run mine until it was in the truck, but I would say that you should be able to fire it up if you have the full harness hooked up to the improtant things at least. You can bypass the VATS, this diagram should help you. You have to have the fan relays in, even if not hooked up, you have to keep the air pump relay hooked up and I think the fuel pump relay as well. Mine had been sitting for a few years and it fired right up the first try (well after I put the fuse in I was missing LOL) I would say just fresh oil, gas and plugs. I have heard that some injectors can get clogged with fuel sitting in them (similiar to a carb) but I didnt have any issues.
![]() Anything I didnt answer??? I would say just swap it in, I love mine and wouldnt go back now, well maybe to a LQ4/9 or LS2 LOL

Re: Want to test fire an LT1
IF you know it was good when you set it up, I'd replace the rear main seal, and the valve seals, then install it and run it. Bearings, etc. don't go bad unless it has been kept in water, or exposed to salt air, etc. The rest of the seals you can get to easily enough to change if needed after install.

Re: Want to test fire an LT1
if you just want to test fire it you do not have to run water, granted it need not run more than 5 sec but we do this sometimes when replacing the opti, fire it up just to be sure it works.
VATS will have to be turned off or a bypass installed. |
