Re: Exhaust Cutouts
Years ago on Trucks! they installed a set that operate with an electric solenoid. You flip a switch in the cab, the solenoid moves the cutout "door" from muffler to OPEN! That was on Copperhead. Perhaps you can google Copperhead and see if the parts list is still laying around.

Re: Exhaust Cutouts
I have a set on my truck, got the kit from Summit. The install was easy on my part, I did just the wiring, exhaust shop did the rest.

Re: Exhaust Cutouts
I've got just regular bolt on cap style cut outs and love them. They are welded to the flange that bolts to the header collector reight under the cab and back and outwards. Worth every penny for the looks I get when they're open! I think they only cost $60 or 70 through Summit and then had the exhaust shop put them on when the exhaust was redone. I would really like to get some electric operated ones but that's a good chunk of change to drop on something as nonessential as they are. Not to mention I can reach them fairly easy just buy laying on the ground.

Re: Exhaust Cutouts
These are what I have http://www.jegs.com/p/Race+Ready/757985/10002/-1 There fun to have but pricey. Be sure to register them as I have had to send them back once already. You might do so research on other brands. I was disappointed to find out these had plastic gears inside. i wrapped header insulation around the pipe next to them and that has worked well so far. Would I but these again? Well I didn’t buy them the 1st time a friend gave them to me but No I would not spend the $$ Just my 2c

Re: Exhaust Cutouts
has anyone wired them in with a cable instead of electric because it seems cheaper and a little easier?

Re: Exhaust Cutouts
i had a mccord (spelling) power plate on my iroc. it was electric and worked real good for about 1 year. then one day at a stop light i was revvin on a honda and is got stuck open. on my way home i got a noise pollution ticket. i told the officer my muffler may have fell off bottom line is electric are cool but manual are reliable.

Re: Exhaust Cutouts
The cable operated units I have seen, only come in 2" or 2.25" O.D. Would love to see a 2.5" O.D. cable unit. I have thought about playing around with flanged industrial gate valves and pnuematic acutators (I'm piecing together my air ride set-up), but haven't had the time.
Anyone know of a cable operated unit in 2.5" O.D. or consider a pnuematic system? |
