Fiberglass Hood

I think I want to buy a fiberglass hood. Does anyone know who makes the best one for fit and quality?

I can't remember who, but one member bought a hood and he spent more time trying to get it to fit than it was worth.

i bought one from www.showcars-bodyparts.com for 535 without shipping and it took like 4 months to get it haha but when i finnally did it wasnt in to bad of shape then i spent another 150 for high build primer and its hopefully getting painted tonight!! ill post some pics and show what it looked like, the biggest problem is that the hood latch wont fit like it should so i had to make a custom hood pin, and it wasnt reinforced very well but probably 800 dollars later it will hopefully look decent, im alost ashamed to say the hood cost the same as the whole truck did hahah

The question asked should be: Why do you want a fiberglass hood? If you are looking to add a cowl induction hood scoop they make those in steel and you can weld it on. Most fiberglass hoods and other body parts are to save weight for drag racing and rarely if ever fit right. The best option might be an all in one unit with fenders and header panel that is made to tilt forward. If you're looking for a show stopper at car/truck shows that would do the trick!

aboz has a point in asking yourself if you really want one. I wish I wouldn't have had to go fiberglass but there are no good hoods left in Florida and US Body was unluckily (in my case) nearby.

I would love to go to the tilt front end aboz but cash is the problem. I want to go to a fiberglass hood because here by the ocean salt isn't your friend and my hood is cancer ridden in the front as it is, I just didn't want to put the time and money into fixing this hood or buy another just to have it happen again.

Man the ocean salt is only one problem, the worst is the Florida humidity. Those two together could just about make a new car into a full rust bucket with the snap of a finger.

Yeah I wish I could have went there or Arizona to get a parts truck so I could have just used the stock steel hood. I'm sure that my next truck which I hope to bag, etc. will come from over that way unless I just get lucky here.

I've got a flip front fibreglass hood/fenders. I didn't install it, it was already on there when I bought the truck.

It has its good and bad points. One good one, is with the hood tilted open, you've got plenty of room to work... however you'll need ample garage height to open the hood fully.

Mine in particular is/does cause me several problems tho...

It was not a perfect fit, and was installed with little to know knowledge of fibreglass... The support dowels (yes, I said dowels, as in wood!) have had the coating & fibreglass sanded off, so that the fenders would line up properly with the rest of the body... so it looks good closed, and has proper body gaps, but with the wood & coating exposed, any moisture can and does get in there and start to destroy the fibreglass... not good!

Also with mine, the area where the dowel ends at the top of the fender, and where the other support bar ends, has cracked on both sides, on the inside. So far it has not cracked all the way through, but time will certainly take care of that, making it worse daily...

It's a 4x4, and is used as such. Getting a properly sealed snorkel setup, without either cutting into the firewall or cutting the hood itself, is not cool, either...

If I'd had the choice, I'd have never bought or installed the monstrosity, and the time needed to make such major changes... not worth the hassle. Steel can take a beating and if rust is a problem, just buy a ton of POR15, and coat both sides, and paint overtop of that. POR15 is magic in a can!

Exactly. I went fiberglass because I atleast wanted a solid hood that wasn't loaded with Bondo. But it's looking pretty good now. I still think I should get atleast $200 back though for the many full days that we've put into it.

i think im going to dish out the 500 or so bucks and buy a fiberglass hood anyways we really dont have any other choice with our trucks i was thinking about fiberglass front fenders also

Frontend takes a whole lot of weight off and makes it really easy to work on.
