Late model seat belts, need application
I had read that S10 or Bravada seat belts work in our trucks, but when I contacted a vendor of S10 parts, he said they wouldnt work b/c they anchor to the wall and not the floor.
Is that the case or will these also bolt to the floor? I want to use a retracting shoulder belt system. Anyone know of a different donor that works cleanly? I do not have the gas tank in cab. Pictured of installed belts would be awesome as well as input from someone who had done an installation. If someone has a set, I need Blue color..... Thanks! |

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
Most, if not all aftermarket belt kits us an angle bracket for mounting. That way you can mount the bracket to the floor and mount the retractor to the bracket keeping the retractor vertical.

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
I was thinking about robbing my donor Caprice of its front seat belts since it's got a blue interior and so does my truck but I haven't looked closely enough, yet, to tell if it's going to work or not. When I do, I'll let you know. Seems most GM stuff is probably about the same? Saves on component costs by keeping it simple?

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
I am using belts from a C1500. They work out real nice.

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
They weren't there. Since I have torn the truck all apart since then, I have not readded it to my build thread. These are from a 91 C1500 regular cab. Passenger side will bolt into the stock mount location. The driver's side won't fit in the stock location with the tank in (won't be a problem on reassembly this time). They are a bit longer than the S10 belts and work just fine. Here are some pictures from the first go round.

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
I got some from retrobeltusa.com
They are very nice... I used the old retractor bracket to bolt the new belts in. |

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
There are several different styles of belts that came in the S-10's and Bravada's. I want to say the the early to mid 90's version is what you're looking for but I'm not sure right now. I suggest you keep looking in jy's and find them. Some bolt on the B pillar but the one you're looking for bolt on the floor as shown below. If your tank is out of the cab both will bolt to the floor otherwise you'll need to space the ds forward a bit from the original mounting hole.

Re: Late model seat belts, need application
1st gen S10 seat belts, and the later 73-87s/88+ trucks use that style above. I used the S10 belts. They are picky about what angle they mount at, as they have inertia locks. Basically, 2 metal weights dangle and when level they let the retractors move freely. But in a rapid movement that causes the weights to swing (hard braking, crash), they swing out and that's what locks the retractors.
So, if their not sitting level, they have the tendency to lock up when retracted. My passenger side ones does this. And back up all new bolt holes you drill with plenty of bracing to prevent the belts from pulling out of the floor in a wreck Last edited by texanidiot25; 05-02-2009 at 01:27 PM. |
