LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I'd done it years ago.
HELL YES it was worth it.
I have a 5.3L now, swapping to a 6.0L soon.
Has plenty of power...but plenty is never enough for this guy.
Haven't really checked MPG (too much fun to bury the pedal all the time) but I think I got about 17 out of it last time I checked.
Locked 3.73 (and I still can't hook it up...it's a tire fryer)

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

I will be doing a 6.0/4L80 transplant soon in my 71. I do not think I will be unhappy.

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

Love it. Yes it's worth it. I did the swap 1 month after I bought the truck, I freakin' hate carbs. 6.0L with ported heads, cam, LT headers. Enough power but I'd love to (and will) have more! 10-14ish MPG. 5.13 gears.

I can't wait to get mine running. 6.0/L92/TH400 combo. I hope to hit 500 HP when all said and done. I bet it will haul the mail as they say. I'm not really looking for good MPG lol

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

It seems like it's getting affordable too. Musclerodz has complete (at least I think) LSx's 400+ HP for $6500 or so. I don't know what all you have to buy besides that though.

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

You do it cheap style, by getting the motor/trans through a junk yard. Thats what I did. $600 bucks for the complete 6.0

mine? staying EFI, this 71 will become my DD and tow rig. I will get decent MPGs around town and it should tow my car pretty good.

I have all the tuning software and schematics so it will not be difficult.
we have done several 5.3 and 6.0 swaps into jeeps for rock crawlin.
those motors are pretty much stock with over 100k miles on them and we beat the poop out of them on the trails. we just put a small 218 cam in my brothers 5.3 and he likes the extra umph.

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

Yep, 5.3s are like $700ish and 6.0s are $900. that is complete, drop it in and "go".
I picked up an 03 LQ4/4l80 combo for $2k, has 16k miles on it.....

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

I plan on a Holley/Demon 750 or 850, whichever I can find for the best deal. People say they think the 850 would be too big but I think it would be just fine with proper tuning.

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

I used a 5.3 in my 51 GMC, best thing I ever done, gobbs of power & gets over 22 MPG on the hiway (at 67 MPH) MPG tends to go down when crusing at 80 MPH

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

here is alot of it:
www.lt1swap.com <--he has alot of LS stuff on there not just LT1

www.ls1tech.com hybrid/conv section has a ton of stuff

I have access to alldata via friends and the local GM parts counter.

I do my own tuning and labor (for the most part).

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

Well theres another can of worms. around where I live there's tons of LT1's at the local wreaking yards. would a LT1 be better for a "just a truck " used as a daily driver/camping truck.

biggest issue with the LT1 is the opti. plus what is the cost of them, we get the 5.3/6.0 complete for cheaper than the LT1s....

Re: Calling all LS Motor Transplants!

I am new to these motors. I am used to the old crate 350. Can someone tell me the basic differences between the LT...LS..etc? I don't know what these mean? I like the MPG's you guys are getting with these engines. It sounds like I might want to try the swap but I don't know ANYTHING about the newer engines. Thanks for any info.
