I bought these off of Feebay for my 68. They were left over stock from Kiowa County. The stamped number on the envelope matches the plates too.

Re: Special tags:Vintage or Vanity

ironically, I'm trading in my 2009 tag tomorrow for an unused 1969 Johnson County, Kansas plate.

Kansas also has a county abbreviation listed on the plate, so I was fairly lucky to find one for my county as well.

I'll get pics on this weekend. CAN'T WAIT!!

And the killer thing is that once you get the specialty antique registration, you don't ever pay for tag renewal again.

As recently as 18 months ago, there were still JoCo sheriff's deputies that didn't know about running year of manufacture plates. Ask me how I know that......

Yes,most states allow running same vintage plates and you carry the current plates in the vehicle somewhere.
I found mine at an antique mall, yet they weren`t expensive...like $25.I don`t live in Virginia, but I won`t drive much once restored and using these plates.Maryland is small and lots of VA,PA,DE,WVA plates running around.

I just couldn't part the truck out. It's been the best truck I have ever had. 98k miles and all I have done to it is one set of tires and a radiator.

I wound up buying a donor truck to use building the 63 with.

Nice plates.Where I got mine there was also another VA pair in black w/white letters.I think they were`68,but were more expensive because they were still in the envelope.I wish I had gotten them, too.

Re: Special tags:Vintage or Vanity

I have a set of '71 TEXAS TRUCK plates. Not registered/on yet. Have pics too at home. Don't know if I really want to run them. I thought if you ran these plates you were registered as an antique and were supposed to abide by a mileage restriction and the places you were driving too. Like to a show or shop only. I am in TEXAS and that's what I heard. Fill me in guys. I don't want to get pulled over in LOW DOUGH. Might not be a good day after that.

I also have a '50 and a '52 TEXAS plates. Oh, and two more '71 TEXAS that don't match. I will get pics. I collect plates. I am sure allot of you do.

In Georgia you can run a YOM (Year of manufacture) plate on cars/trucks up to 71. No mileage/useage restrictions.

Here's my plates,

I might have to get rid of these plates, Colorado is going to enhanced dyno emissions tests statewide in 2011 and if you aren't grandfathered in with collector plates before Sept of this year you won't be able to get them anymore.

Hmm, I wonder if that means I would have to renew my plates (expired Feb this year) in order to be able to keep them?

When did Colorado decide to do this emissions deal? Last I read they had decided to scrap the idea of bringing testing back.

Very recent. I would definitely renew them and keep them current, and do it before July, because after July 1st all registrations go up $30 per year, so a collector tag will be $125, PLUS $30 per year, times five years; $180. So collector plates will now be $305 to renew!!!

I've heard this from numerous sources, I heard rumors the reason is supposedly the Feds threatened to cut road funding for the state, I don't know if it's true or not.

Hmm, I they may just find a place on the wall then. I would need to put insurance back on it just to renew them.

So the emissions thing would include me too? I've never ever had to get a vehicle tested before. Always lived outside the testing area.

Yes, it'll be statewide. I know, they're getting me two! I didn't have to deal with e-tests after we moved to Windsor.

I have often thought about getting 68 tags for my truck, but I think I will just stick with my tags I have on it. When I finish my 37 I would like to get some old school tags for it though.

Re: Special tags:Vintage or Vanity

Well, I must say this is all pretty cool!
I looked up the Missouri statute on using old plates just now and they'll let you run a year of manufacture plate but, the way I'm reading the statute, you'd be under the same restrictions as a regular historic plate, which are:

Quote:
Vehicles displaying historic or antique license plates may be driven:

1. To and from exhibitions and educational events without any mileage limitation;
2. To repair facilities within a 100 mile limit; and
3. Up to 1,000 miles per year for personal use.

The owner is responsible for keeping a log of the miles driven for personal use each calendar year. The log must be kept in the vehicle when the vehicle is being driven on any state road.
Any of you Missouri people know if this is, in fact, the case? It pretty much shoots down displaying them on a daily driver if it is.
