steering slop

So i have a 70 blazer with a 6 inch suspension and on 36" tires. The steering in my rig is really sloppy, i can almost turn the steering wheel a half turn before any response. I was wondering what is the best way to get tighter steering response and less slop? THIS MAY BE A DUMB QUESTION. I appreciate any help and advice.

Re: steering slop

Could be worn out steering components (tie rod ends etc) or a worn out steering box.... get someone to work the steering wheel back & forth within the range of the 'slop' while you watch everything that moves; try to see where the slack is in the system. Could be more than just one bad part...

If it's the steering box, it should be replaced. You might be able to buy a little time by loosening the jamb nut and turning in the adjuster screw, a little at a time. Go too far, and the steering will tend to bind and not return easily to center when driving -- so be very careful if you try this.

Edit: No, it is not a dumb question!
