Are door latches hardened?
I'm trying to drill my door latches for solenoids and can't even seem to center punch them to get the drill started. I'm thinking it'll be easier to take them to a machine shop instead.

Re: Are door latches hardened?
Not sure why you are drilling into the hinge. Most everyone comes straight down from the latch, mount the solenoids near the inspection hole and use a cable to pull straight down. Sure would be lots easier than drilling the hardned hinge or plate. All this requires is a small hole in your present stock latch arm.

Re: Are door latches hardened?
Not trying to drill into the hinge at all- I'm trying to drill the latch to attach the cable from the solenoid exactly as you described and having a hard time drilling into the latches. Did you have that problem? I'm pretty sure my drills are sharp but they aren't biting in.

Re: Are door latches hardened?
Then you need some american made bits. I didn't even use a punch just a small bit, well used and my air drill. Had no issues with it.

Re: Are door latches hardened?
soloniod goes behind door panel and the cable goes on the rod. No drill needed?
Bolt to stock hole
