1970 C10 Just Gettin Started
Hey I want to introduce myself and the truck I just got. I've been wanting to get into this hobby for many years but haven't had the means. I still don't have the means but I'm gonna figure how to do it anyway. I picked up this truck from a guy on Craigslist for $1500. I was able to drive it home (barely). Good thing I bought it 4 miles away from my home.
I'll probably start a build thread since I plan to remove all parts down to the frame and recondition or replace everything. I want to do as much of this myself as possibleAnd I want to chronicle the entire project. I really don't know a lot about working about on vehicles but I am a technician in a print shop so I am not intimidated when it comes to taking things apart and repairing them. I'm going to try to budget roughly $500 per month and 10-15 hours per week. But we'll see how that goes. I also will be doing the majority of the work in the backyard because the garage is off limits unfortunately. |

Re: 1970 C10 Just Gettin Started
That does look nice a decent truck to start with. There are a few things to remember. First, take a ton of pictures as you tear things apart. Those are great when you are trying to put things back together and can't remember what goes where. Also, invest in an assembly manual. Many places carry them and they are quite handy. Finally, as you work on your truck you will find times where you get discouraged by a lack of progress. It all takes time, and even if you are only working on small things try and do a little something each week. Basically, keep your eye on the eventual goal. Good luck with your truck!

Looks like a solid start! Are you going to keep the 71/72 grille or go back to the 69/70?

red71,
I never considered that they differ. See I already learned something. I hadn't even thought about the grill until you mentioned it. But since you mentioned it, the 71/72 has got to go. I don;t like the turn signal lights hiding behind the grill. I'll have to find the 69/70 eventually. |

Re: 1970 C10 Just Gettin Started
First of all Welocme from Miami. It is not as hard as people think number one what is really hard is staying motivated to finish it. I have seen too many people tear things up and then get overwhelmed. Prepare your self a list of what you want to do exactly and do it in process of elimination is what I do..
good luck!!!

Re: 1970 C10 Just Gettin Started
welcome from MN
you mentioned that you dont like the turn signals being behind the grille, the turn signals for 71-72's are suposed to be mounted in the front bumper looks like a great start and good luck

Re: 1970 C10 Just Gettin Started
Since we're changing grills and I prefer stepside over fleet so I got this this morning. It was only $200. The guy doesn't like steppers and he wanted it gone quick so he even delivered it to me! (which is great since I have no trailer!)
Look close and notice the old airforce stenciled on lettering! big_al, thanks for the advise. I learned a little about getting overwhelmed when I tear those machines apart at work (lots of really small parts and unique tools) |

Haha. We have a city brush/junk collection crew that comes by about every 6 months. And around that time is when the metal recycler guys start marauding the streets with there huge trailers grabbing anything made of metal. I just didn't want them to confuse it for junk! |

jojo and from Ohio. Looks like the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Nice looking truck with what looks to be a very solid foundation. You just can't beat a 70 C10

Re: 1970 C10 Just Gettin Started
Welcome to the BB.Looks like a great project. As you source parts try out some of the BB Vendors, they are usually cheaper or at least competetive with the big chains and have better customer service to boot.Get a LMC catalog also,it will have great reference photos on how stuff goes together, though they usually have slighly higher pricing..

Nice pickup on the step bed. You should be able to recoup your $$ when you sell the fleetside one. Gonna be a cool project.
