Tire shopping

I have been pricing tires. The least expensive tires I have found are always at TireRack.com. Even with shipping, they seem to be the best price.
Has anybody used them. I have never bought a set of tires on the net before.
Where do you guys shop for tires.

I have bought from them a few times over the years -- they are probably one of the safest, most reliable companies you can deal with on a long-distance basis. And their website has tons of research info. There are other reputable tire dealers out there, too, and sometimes you can catch deals that are too good to miss.

I like to shop local when I can, though. Some local stores will price match, so if you take them your best deal (including shipping etc so you compare total out-the-door costs), you just might get the same price locally and help keep your neighbors employed.

Yea, I like to be a local supporter of the economy.
After I made this post I found a local dealer that has the same price as TireRack. They're a penny cheaper per tire with no shipping, just local tax. That still puts me way ahead on the price as compared to TireRack. Here is a link for those of use that are shopping for tires. My son has purchased 4-5 sets from Tirerack.com and the delivery is super fast ,especially here in VA. He's had great results every time.

I normally just walk into Jegs and get BFG rubber.

I use a local place.Greensboro Tire.They were actually cheaper then Tire Rack.TR was the same price but with the local I got the tires,mounted and balanced with tax for the same price as the tires thru TR.They were also over a hundred dollars cheaper on a set of 4 than anyone else local.This was their original quote not a price match or a deal to get my business.They also worked with me to get two mounted then allow me to get them on so I could paint the other two wheels before mounting them.

I looked at discount tire. I'm going with a 215/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rear. They don't show that as a possibility. I'll call them to find out.

Not to hijack, but is everyone running 'Car' tires or 'Sport truck / SUV' tires?

Discount looks like a pretty sweet deal from what I can see, free shipping is hard to pass up on tires.

My K20 is on 33x12.50-16.5, LR-D which is an 8PR LT. That size does not come as a P-metric (car) tire.

When comparing prices, be sure to look at total, out-the-door, guts feathers & all... free shipping can cost more if the tire price is high. And there's sales tax (yes/no?) and mounting & balancing -- and rotations, unless you do it yourself.

I was at Walmart. I asked how much to mount and balance. He said $5 a wheel. I asked if he had the correct price. "Yes, that's what we charge" he said, and you don't have to buy their tires for that mount/balance price. So I feel like I'm getting a great deal buying them up the road at there Tiresplus.com walk in store. And I will tell them what Walmart charges for a mount/balance. If they do it for that much, great. If not, Walmart is on my way home.

My apologies, for example Nitto makes a 555 Hi-perf 'car' tire and a NT420S SUV/Light truck tire (both in P-Metric sizing). Other than tread pattern difference and the availability of these tires in sizes one series doesn't offer, Looks to me like its a load rating issue. I guess.... depending on our specific application and weather or not we are hauling things on the regular would dictate that, then...

I like tirerack, but most of my tires come from goodyear.
