Oil Dipstick won't go in very far
This is weird. I went to look at a project truck over the weekend and noticed the dipstick sticking up like 8" out of the tube. I couldn't get it to go in any further. It looked like an original Chevy dipstick. When I asked the guy about it he said it's been that way for a long time. It looks like the correct length but something stops it after it goes in about 10". Any ideas????

Had a similar problem, the dipstick was hitting the windage tray in the pan. When I disassembled the engine, to my suprise there were 3 tips of dipsticks, like up to the full line that were broken off. I said to hell with fixing it and cut a dipstick off short to plug the tube and carry a spare dipstick for checking the oil. Kinda backward, but works for me!
