keeping up with the '10 Camaro
the '10 camaro runs 13.0 stock
I'm building a 383 for my truck and want to know how many board members have streetable smallblock trucks and are running 12.9 or faster. What's your basic combo?? What's your time??? my basic combo 400 hp 383 built 700r4 with little conveter (aprox 1800rpm) 3.08, open diff (changing to a 3.73 posi when I get the money) what do yall think this will run??? other things I should be considering??? I know desktop dyno overrates horsepower, but here is the graph

My old combo was a flat top forged 406,World Products SportsmanII heads,Comp cams X-treme Energy hydraulic cam approx .507-.510 lift,Edelbrock Performer RPM intake,650 Holley D.P. Stock 3:73 truck posi, Turbo 400 with 2600 Fairbanks converter. I drove it everyday, it ran 13.12 at 103 on the motor, 12.45 at 113 on a 150 shot . My new combo is a 406 forged flat top,Victor Jr. heads, Comp 286 X-treme Roller,Jesel shaft rockers, Bowtie single plane intake,750 Holley worked to 830,MSD 6AL with a Pro billet distributor,Elec fans and water pump. Hooker Super Comp headers with 3" mandrel bent ex with an X-Pipe. Turbo 400 with a 3000 converter. Out back I run a F--- 9" with 3:70 gears. No track time yet, but it should run real low 12's or high 11's I'm guessing. I think you will need a little more converter, around 25-2600 for your combo according to which cam you choose. I think mid 13's are about the ballpark you're in.Just my guess. I've found these trucks run better in the 1/8, as aerodynamics really kill them in the top end. Oh, My old combo ran 7.90's in the 1/8th but I couldn't get it in the 12's in the 1/4 without the bottle.Hope i didn't ramble too much!Good luck!

I run a 347ci LS1 with a set of worked over stock casting heads and decent cam. Trans is a 4L80E with lock up converter. I drove it to the track the first time (3 hours each way). When running I drive it all over.

how much hp do you think you have on your LS1??? why is it so much faster than a 406???

My old 6 speed 01 SS went best of 12.44@112.9 with a weak 2.01 60'
Mods were: Headers with dual electric cut outs ($1,100) Fast Toys Ram Air ($150) Filter ($30) Lid ($75) Ported stock Throttle body ($0 as I did it myself) Underdrive pulley ($125) Tires Under $2k worth of mods in the car. Had it been an auto car with a stall, I bet it could have gone closer to bottom 12's. The new Camaros are going to go mid 11's with the right bolt on's, tires and converter. The LS3 motor is a sweet factory motor. With a set of heads and cam, these cars should have no problem getting in the high 10's with less then $5k invested.

The new Camaro's will be fast and quick, but in traffic, the average person will just see another new car. Now I love a quick car as much as anyone, but a slow old car will draw attention and turn heads. With a little work a new Camaro in stock configuration will be beatable in the stoplight drags.
I gave up trying to be the fastest car/truck anyway. I just want it to be fast enough for me. If some trust fund kid with a new Camaro and a blank check waxes me, so what. I have invested blood sweat and tears into mine. He doesn't; I don't blame him, I would do the same with the money if I had it. I am just not going to try to compete with the cubic dollars. I have something I am PROUD to own (well not yet, needs more work). I would love to have a new Camaro, but I don't know when I would drive it, my 99 Z71 is more practical as a daily driver for me and if I am going to cruise, it will be in my 65 C10 or borrow my dad's 58 Biscayne. Keep TOTAL cost in mind. You can get low 11's with a 5k investment, but you must consider the price of the car, 20K +. If I bought an older 98 Camaro for 5K and then did the inverse and put 20K in it, I would be capable of space travel. I also wouldn't have to worry about voiding my warranty. Just my views. But they are cool, just not practical for ME.

Unless your truck loses some weight and you get your suspension setup correctly. I had a 410-415hp (350 whp), same tq numbers 350 w/a bowtie overdrives 700R4, 3.42 gears and big 325/50 drag radials and couldn't get any better then a 13.6 @ 107 with a 2.2 60 ft. The mph was there, but with the 3.02? first gear of the 700R4 traction was hard to come by.

Streetable is open to debate. My truck IMO is very streetable. But others would disagree since it's a rowdy SBC and running a big converter. I love driving it though..
