Trying to figure out what chassis my truck is on.

Truck is on a 4wd chassis. I believe the t-case is np203 since the shift pattern is-

(front)
low loc
low
nuetral
high
high loc
(seat)

and this is on the knob as well.
It has a 350 sbc. I'm not sure whether the engine is from the truck the cab and bed came from or the truck the chassis and trans/transfer case came from. The reason i know it is not the stock chassis is because the vin on the glovebox says it was an original 2wd truck and the t-case shifter was brought up through a cut through the floor boards. I guess my question is what years chevy fullsizes had NP203's with this shift pattern and how to determine what year the chassis is. My mechanic geustimated about a '75 silverado. What can i check to identify this?

EDIT- If it helps it also has locking hubs and i think my mechanic said it has a 350 trans. It also has heavy leaf packs. I'll count them tomorrow.

GM used the 203 transfer case 1973-79 in light truck line with automatic transmissions. These units did not have manual locking hubs.

Unless a part time kit with hubs was added at some time.

Re: Trying to figure out what chassis my truck is on.

What are yall talking about full time 4wd for? Maybe i don't understand hubs but one of my buddys whos a 4wd tech was telling me that my 4wd wouldn't engage unless I locked my hubs and then put it in 4 wheel. I think the hubs were added but what makes em work? what exactly do they do? Sorry if i'm noobing out on you guys but this is my first truck. I've not had a lifted or 4wd truck before. Alot different than my old monte carlo ss.

EDIT- Maybe yall were saying you think this was a full time 4wd chassis originally and the hubs were added so that the driver could decide when it engages?

Mudder you've got the answer. It is 73 up. Is there anyway to figure out the exact year. Can you find the vin or some sort of id number on a chassis?

Here's a pic of my shift knob. Maybe this can help identify it? I just added the boot.

Re: Trying to figure out what chassis my truck is on.

Cool man. Looks like i'm going to have to do a little searching to find a truck with the same chassis and shifter setup as mine. Does anyone know how to identify the engine? I don't know if it is from the chassis truck, cab and bed truck or neither.

Re: Trying to figure out what chassis my truck is on.

The '73-87 trucks used different steering components. Here is a link from LMC that will help narrow it down. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=139
