I have a fat tire!

I guess its kinda of a combo that I have to adjust- There was no way to tell w/o getting the truck together, but the front tires rub, so I need opinions as to which way to go.
The tires are 255/70 and the rim is 9" wide (I had them widened) The truck has 2 1/2" Drop spindles and 1 coil removed from the front spring. (rear has neg 5" springs)
Looks like the alternatives would be to change to a 7" wide rallye and narrower tire or to buy a lower profile tire and keep the 9" rims. I think a 255/50 would be a few inches shorter than the 255/70, but would be unfortunate to buy and put them on and still rub. Or I could put a stock pair of springs back on the front and raise it up a bit.
Or would the 7" combo be better?

Re: I have a fat tire!

i think a 235x70 with 7"rim 4"backspace would do fine

Re: I have a fat tire!

you swapped to 5 lug right? it look s like what happened is that the conversion stuck your rims out about an inch on each side. Im running the same wheel/tire set up you are (15x8) and Mine barely clear if I lower my front end if I were to lower that much, but I havent converted to 5 lug disc yet. The other guy will chime in too if im wrong
oh and we need more pics! nice truck!

Re: I have a fat tire!

Might try the springs first, sounds like the cheapest solution to me, looks like that might give it just enuff room.

Re: I have a fat tire!

IMHO i think the 7" wheels with a smaller tire would look best. right now it looks south of the border

Re: I have a fat tire!

when my truck was that low I had 255/70-15's on 7" wheels. it filled the well nicely and didn't rub.

Goodrich specs 235 to 8.5" wheel, so I am not sweating the 1/2" extra

Re: I have a fat tire!

Did the new tires take care of the rubbing?

Re: I have a fat tire!

I have 235 70 15 tires on 7 inch rims. It looks like you need more backspacing to pull the tires back inside the wheelwells.

This may help determine if tires will work out your problem.
