Wing window replacement

Anyone ever replaced the vent/smoking window glass themselves? My lock knob started to come apart, and then began slightly cracking the glass. In my repair manual it sounds pretty simple but...you never know. So is it? I can get the glass and knob from LMC for around $60, compared to $140 for a professional install. If it is a pain, Ill just suck it up and kick out the loot to the pros.

Yo! I have seen a pictorial on this site, but I'm unable to locate it!
It was a full tear down of the door, removal and replacement of the vent window parts, and re-assembly.
Just had my '76 camaro doors down to just glass and tracks,...took some time, and trial and error to get to all the fasteners, but wasn't too bad. The vent assemblies require removal of a few more fasteners, and then the same slow and careful removal from the door that the window regulators do. FRANKENTRUCK's need rubber so I'll investigate further.
Sure would be nice to be able to compile pictorials under their subject for future reference. I keep bookmarks to most of mine.

Im comtemplating trying it myself. Im talking about just the glass and knob on the vent window, not the frame. Chiltons says to spray "Prepsol" around the frame, and let it break down the sealer, then just slide the glass out. Clean the frame track out real good. Apply a new seal srtip on the new glass, and ordinary motor oil in the frame. Slide the glass into the frame, cut the excess sealer strip off........ Sounds a little too easy to me.

There is no sealer or glue, it's just in there really tight. There is a rubber strip
that is pinched tight in between the glass and frame.
Getting it out is easy, craming the new glass back in can be kinda hard, but
easier than removing the complete vent frame from the door.

Be sure to get all of the rust/dirt out of the frame groove before you install the glass.
And put the rubber strip on the glass, not in the groove when installing.
You may need to put WD-40 on the rubber to help slide it in the groove.

I did my drivers side on my old '86 C-10, but I did the complete assembly. It was very easy to do the complete assembly, and the benifit is that you don't have to struggle with old parts, and it's complete with new seals.

Yeah heavy thats what Im understanding. I said sealer, but I think the book called it a sealer strip. And it did say to put the strip on the glass and install, not the strip in the frame. I thought about just swapping the whole assy. but its kinda pricey, and its just my work truck.
