Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
So I ran across a killer deal, some weld typhoons look alikes made by eagle alloy. The guy originally told me they were 16 x 8's, after driving for over 2 hrs to meet the guy it turned out they were 16x10's w/tires mounted. I couldn't help myself, I bought them anyway.
I installed them today, they look awesome. I really like the way they look. Unfortunately, they are too big and rub. What options do I have? Tires on them are 305/70-16 I think I can get new stock coils and maybe clear? Maybe a coil spacer? New taller coils? 2 or 3" Body lift? New tires? Sell them and wait and find some 16x8's I can put tires on that fit? I'm leaning towards a body lift right now. Anybody know where I can find one? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

There isn't anything available anymore unless it's a 4WD. I took my truck to a reputable spring shop in town and he made some front coils that gave me about two inches of lift. That front tire is big time wide.

you can always go to http://www.diy4x.com and get a set of their spring hangers and turn it into a 4x4... That is how I am converting mine.

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
I`ve seen 12.50/33s on 10s work.I`ve never done it.I`m not sure if 1t springs make much difference. on a 3/4t.There are spacers, but I think there`s a better way. There are members with higher-riding 2wds on the site. There`s a guy in California with a blue trucks with aluminum slots.I doubt you want to go this route, but late-model suspension swaps and companies make 2wd lifts for 88-98 trucks.

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
If you like the wheels, a new tire is going to be your cheapest/easiest path to follow. That tire is equivilant to a 33x12.50 (It's what we ran on my wifes Jeep that had a 4" suspension lift).
I don't care how good of a deal that you feel like you got on em...It's going to be a wash if you end up having to hack up your burb for them to fit. On the flip side of the coin, if you wanted a lifted pre-runner anyway...go for it! |

I assume that you burb has rear leaf springs? that's easy for a 2" block but the front springs will be a little harder...

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
I had also seen on here where several membes were running 33x12.50's on there C-20's, so I thought I might be able to squeek by with them.
Anyway, I'm leaning towards a body lift. I found some body lifts for a 73 to 91 suburbans. How hard would it be to make this work on mine?

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
it does look awesome. i'd trade for smaller tires rather than do a body lift or go 4x4. i love my 72 burb 3/4 ton 2wd. i'm putting big sway bars from classic performance products on it, just finished converting to electronic igntion and planning to swap in a class III/IV hitch in place of the class 2 it came with.

Buy a 4x4 burby for the wheels and just go with some ralleys on that rig.

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
Thats a pretty suburban, I dont personally know if I'd go to all that trouble to make a set of tires fit, would a smaller tire on that wheel work? I just bought 2 new A/T Bridgestons for my Tahoe, $500 bucks OUCH, that set of tires sold on Craigslist might put to closer to a set, or maybe ask someone on CL if they want to swap?

http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/ Here's a couple of tire calculators.Maybe they will help you determine if a tire swap will get you where you need to be.

Check CL for some 31's, then sell your 33's...which should bring a little more money if they are in good shape?

31's on 10" rims will look funny though depending on the width of the tire.....

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
Well, I pulled out a couple of floor jacks and raised the sub up 3".
The tires stull rubbed. This is my everyday driver so back went on the old wheels and tires (see pics below). I'm fixing to pull off some 285/75 - 16's from my wifes sub (99 3/4) so I'll try those on the rims, see if they will fit. The 285/75-16's fit on my other sub (69 C-20) without rubbing. For now I'm stuck with these. I did repaint before reinstalling. Color is just dupli-color gray truck and van paint. I couldn't find Argent Silver. These turned out a little darker than I wanted, but still better than the flat black the PO painted them. Hope y'all had a good weekend!

Re: Dissappointing, my new 8 lug wheels, I need a solution!
Sorry but I like how it looks now (with old tires back on) better then before with the bigger tire's. Keep your old tires and wheels on it and it will drive and handle better then it would with the big tires anyways.

I'm not sure but I have a 72 camper special and its equiped with a set of overload springs that make it higher and alot stuffer. This might be a idea.
