Rebuilding Front Ends
I have was wandering how important is it tho rebuild the front in 1969. I grease the front bushings and it all seams pretty tight. The steering box is tight and the truck tracks down the road great. i planing to to lower it and get it realined. but just wanted to see if i should do more work while i have it apart.

Just consider if it is all original, everything is 40 years old. I've had my best luck over the years to replace everything at once as compared to a piece or two here and there.Good luck

It would help to know how you are going to lower it.
It would be a good idea to clean and repack the front wheel bearins. Also the lower "A" arm u-bolts should be replaced. Danny

I would say it all depends on what shape the bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends and steering linkage are in now.
If everything is in good shape there is no real reason to start replacing things but if you have worn ball joints or other parts it is time to do it. |

if you don't know how to inspect it, then pay someone to look it over. Ask if they can show you how to do it.
A buddy of mine rolled his 82 malibu on the freeway when a ball joint popped out on him. It wasn't pretty. He and his buddy walked away with absolutly no injurys... but the car was hardly even a parts car after that ride. About $18,000 was spent on that car, and he saved about $5000 worth of crap off of it before it went to the junk yard. They were kinda lucky to be alive. |
