Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
I got a new grille and visor. I already have the grille installed. Now if I could just find me a 10" or 12" sub, dirt cheap, I'd be able work on my system.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Got my truck running for the first time in a few months. This winter I started with a basic tune up (new cap and rotor, plug wires, plugs, oil change, air filter, etc.) I ended up pulling off the heads and having them rebuilt, putting on an edelbrock performer intake, and a new steering column after someone tried to steal it while the heads were off. Today I finally finished all of it and got it running (sort of). Now I get to learn how to rebuild a carb.
lol, all of this and all I had ever done before was basic stuff. (plugs, oil changes, brakes, etc.) So it might seem like no big deal to some but I am damn pleased with myself. |

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Did a cam swap on my vortec 454. Old on the left, new on the right.
And before you ask, yes that is my wife's Chinese newspaper it's on.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
I measured. Again & again & again. Then I cut the cab mounts off of a 65 swb frame to transplant onto another. Cutting the rivets off all 4 mounts & then chiseling them off took the better part of Saturday.... those SOB's were stubborn.
Today was more of the same & then I moved some frames around when my buddy stopped by. Board member n2billet dropped off an 88-92 bench seat & it was waiting for me when we returned from moving the frames. Not sure where it's going (yet)....

What made you decide to go with a roller cam?

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Because that is what it had originally. The stock cam is 204/209 at .050, the new cam is 225/225 at .050. The max lift for both is .483" which is pretty mild for a big block. This is actually a Mercruiser take-out cam that I picked up for $35.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Thursday night I crawled under my 77 and worked on the exhaust. I had plans of having it cinched up and running before my buddy Keith showed up on Friday. Unfortunately it was not meant to be. As I installed the last bolt on the collector I saw a piece of gasket hanging out. CRAP! The collector gasket was broke.
My buddy n2billet came to visit Friday night. Saturday we picked up his sons 79 Blazer from my bro-in-law with a fresh transmission in it. Unfortunately the governor took a dump before we made it back to my house so we took it back to my bro-in-law. Today I rebuilt my swimming pool filter and washed daily drivers...

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Went to the junkyard, got a 85 lower grille panel for my 81's 87 grille swap. Also found a nice 81 bumper parking light.
I was also looking at hoods. I got home and installed the lower panel and parking light. Along with installing the yard parts, I noticed I didnt have my 1/4'' drive sockets...... I Left them at the yard somewhere.... Not good.... I was there right before closing.. I left the row of sockets on the radiator support of the suburban I yanked the grille panel from...DOH ! Im hoping if I go nice and early they Might still be there..... Bummer and lesson learned if not.... I did get my grille in though...looks pretty good, needs to be painted black.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
I bought a small tach and installed in on my 75. I was scared to drive the truck on the freeway without know how fast the engine is spinning. Since the install, I have not driven the truck, lol.
I also took the old nasty seat cover off only to fond a very nice bench seat under it. Same goes for the carpet, got rid of the nasty floor mats and vacumed the floor and it loos brand new. Very nice.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Removed the alarm system that was jacked into my brake lghts, all the wires (including the unfused hot wire!), got the dash back together except the ash tray (need to wire up a cig lighter for the cell). Put biocide in the diesel tanks. Cleaned the oil and sand out of the intake and oil and dissolved foam mask out of the air cleaner and put in a new filter. Installed a clear return line to check for bubbles (none). Lubed up the injection pump, seem to have freed up something cause it ran better this AM.
Finished the brick underfloor for the parts shed, installed the windows and wrapped one side wiht Tyvek. And mowed the lawn. And took steroid for the torn rotator cuff. And watched Red Wings and NASCAR. Did I mention the sunburn?

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Started the 79, racked the pipes off just enough to pizz off the neighbor lady (nibnose) and moved it from the front of the house to in front of the garage. Caught up on some great reading here.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
I bought a new starter, because my old one just went out. So I went to NAPA with my starter to give him the core, found out my 84 had an 89 starter on it. Anyway, I went home put on my new 65lb starter. YES 65lb! I am a BIG guy and it was even heavy for me. Plus it was the size of 2 footballs. Anyway, got it put on, put the inspection cover back on, hooked the battery wires back up. Turned the key, waited for the glowplugs to cycle, eh eh vroom. She works! It was well worth the $168 I paid for it, plus it is USA made and have a lifetime replacement warranty.

Re: What did you get done 6/7/09 edition
Finally got around to installing my XM radio controller in the ashtray.
Went with a friend to pickup three 4X8 sheets of 1/8" steel for one of his projects. Dang that stuff is heavy! Good deal though, he paid 50 bux a sheet. Took the family out for dinner Saturday night. Good weekend.

Changed out my winter tires for summer ones on my '86 Jimmy DD.
Made some adjustments to the carb on the '87. Woke the 454 up a bit more. Did some planning for the KY Meet in July!! Hit a few cruis-in's. Ken
