Big block placement near Centex
I have a 1971 SWB 2wd with a 454 and T400. he engine seems too far forward in the engine bay. Everything is installed and the truck drives the DS header just won't hook up due to it being a center dump (it looks to be for a car not truck). I have an inch in the front between the fan and the radiator and 3 1/2 behind the HEI. The oil pan also has about 1/2 clearance from the front crossmember. The shift linkage also looks like it is installed wrong and it binds going into park. I am looking at the patriort headers from Summit and want to make sure everything is good before I get them.
I searched this and could not find any pics. If anyone has a 454/402 in a 2wd SWB 1968-1971 in Centex and doesn't mind if I come by and snapp a few pics of the engine to make sure mine is installed correctly that would be great.

Re: Big block placement near Centex
Ok I have determined that my engine is installed with SB mounts and is too far farward. Too bad, it is all hooked up and running/driving but the headers are sitting on the notched frame rail. I will go ahead and pull the motor and reseal it and install new BBC motor mounts and my 1967 front clip.
Anyone for a quick build Saturday???? lol |
