how to mount the bottem of a short water pump alt?
i know how to hook it to the top bracket, now how do i hook up the bottem??
the only thing i can see is bolt it to the exhaust pipe but i just cant see doing that.... which head bolt hole does the top alt bracket go in?

the trucks had a small cast bracket that mounted to the head, & the alt bolted to that.....i beleive that was 68-72(the 67s didnt have the accessory holes in the head, & used a stamped brackets like the cars had).....maybe somebody has some pics

My stock bracket goes in both of the wholes in the head. I really don't like it though, and I am ordering one of these tomorrow.

ive got the top bracket that you adjust it with, but i cant find one for the bottem anywhere.... it looks like it must bolt straight to the end of the rams horn (theres 2 holes in it)

69-72 have a cast iron lower that bolts into the front holes in the head,if you have early heads they dont have these provisions,aftermarket may not either.then the stamped steel adjustor.the 69 up trucks didnt use the bracket that bolts into the exhaust manifold.i have truck,car,style brackets available if needed,the style that bolt to side of manifold,and the kind that bolt to the front of manifold,and the correct truck ones.Im going to ebay them all soon,let me know if theres a certain kind you need.email me.

the alt bracket in the bottom picture is from before the heads had mounting holes and will not work with heads with the mounting holes

josh, here is where the bolts go...
And it'll look something like this... I can't place it on there quite right since my truck has the later style brackets. My steering pump is in the way. |

I have a great picture of the bracket and setup, took it so that I knew how to put it back together on my "70. The file is to big (800K) to post here. if you want I can send it to you direct if you have a high speed internet connection.

i totally dont have the right set up then.... mine didnt have that bottem bracket... i have a 1 bolt top bracket and no bottem bracket i can find...

longhorn ail isnt that a brkt for a long water pump? Mine bolted to the rams horn..had a heck of a time finding one to work with a short water pump..had to go to alan grove for a really cool brkt

BigJim, Im the other longhorn(the crazy one!), but that is a bracket for the short pump alt. If you didnt have the acc bolts in the heads, you needed a stamped steel bracket that bolted to the waterpump & ex manifold. Desert rat had the yrs right on (69-72) on the cast bracket. the stamped bracket was older, but mounted the alt in the same position(just had a boss on the end of the manifold that the later manifold didnt have). the same set up that Longhorn pics on , is in my kids ranger(Ferd with a SB Chev).......the only way to do a ferd

Jim, I have73 up stuff on my longhorn, so have to think about the old stuff a little also! The kids ranger is stiill fresh in my mind(sorta)......it was only a couple yrs ago that I did that swap. the power steering pump bracket would make a preacher cuss tho, the pump is on the pass side

woo hoo!!! i dont have the right bracket, but i found one in my pile-o-junk that fit the holes in my rams horns and worked with the alt, i style wish i knew what i did with the correct peices though, now i need a huge (IMO) belt

Josh...I just got done painting that bracket y0u see in the pic...top piece too. It won't bolt to the caddy no matter how hard I try.

dont really know man, after rebuildign this thing i dont have much $$ left, you need any parts for the longhorn that i may have? i wont really know on the money sit. for probably a week or so, im trying to sell some stuff

also--- where does the top bracket bolt onto? mine bolts in one of the head bolts where your bottem bracket goes

ive got a 6 cylinder im selling, told the guy $100 and he said he'd think about it, i hope he buys it!!! that could get these things going i think
