Tilt Steering conversion
Has anyone converted to tilt steering, is it a big job? I have a friend who added a tilt column from a Chevy Minivan but I haven't asked him if it was a bolt-in fit or not. Also, the wiper controls and gear selector would be different wouldn't they?

I put a tilt column in my '87 4x4. It was a super easy job. Just unbolt it and pull it out. The hardest part was trying to locate the unit. The one I put in my truck had a delay wiper switch where the original didn't have delay. I haven't located a delay module yet to see if I can get them working.
I wouldn't recommend trying to make a column from another vehicle fit. |

I put a tilt in my 74 out of a 1977 GMC. Wasn't too big of an ordeal, the only big part was pulling the steering wheel in order to put the correct lock cylinder into place

A van may not fit. I was looking at getting a van column but found out that they don't interchange from a mechanic. When I got my new one it was a easy job but take your time. Also get ready for some tight fits. If you need a write up I can do one for you just let me know.

It's been a few years since I put mine in, but I think I got it out of a full size mid 70s Chevy Caprice. I think I had to change the wiring harness through the column because of the wiring block at the end of the column. Otherwise it was a direct bolt in. Let me know if I might be spewing something here. It has been awhile since I did this.
